Hello I'm a new subscriber with a lot of questions/interests, but I'll just ask one this time! :-) My great great aunt, Alice Richards married John Oliver STANLEY in Vernon in 1910. She died in Merritt in December of 1911, aged about 28, in childbirth. The child also died. I have found two articles about her death in the Merritt Herald, but have looked for her on the BC archives site and can not find a death for her or Baby Stanley! Was it mandatory to register deaths in small towns in 1911? I believe Merritt only gained "City" status in 1911....am I correct? Thanks! Taryn Jones Victoria
