    1. [CAN-BC] GRAY family
    2. Greetings fellow listers, I am researching GRAY families of Ontario and British Columbia. My 2nd great grandfather was: Matthew GRAY, born about 1820, in Ireland. His family left Ireland when Matthew was a boy. Matthew Gray married Elizabeth Eliza CONNELLY (not sure of the spelling) probably about 1848 in Ontario. About 1875 they went by ship around the horn with their family to New Westminster. While in Houstonville, Wellington, Ont., Matthew and his son Thomas ran a mill. Thomas's son, ARTHUR WELLESLEY (A. WELLS) GRAY served as mayor of New Westminster for many years, in early 1900's. His brother was SANDY (ALEXANDER BAIRD) GRAY. The father, Matthew GRAY, died 14 March 1895 in New Westminster. Family says he helped build the Baptist Church in New Westminster, after the original one burned down. In his later years he was "Hotel Keeper" at H 505 Carnarvon, and this is where he died. I understand that many of the GRAYs of New Westminster are related to this Matthew Gray. A cousin who lived there, Elsie Gray, was told by her mother not to date any Gray's, as they were probably related. I have a great deal of information to share on the Gray Family, and would like to find others working on this line. If you have gotten to the end of message, THANK YOU for reading this. Any suggestions will be welcomed. Suzie Sabin of Shelton, Washington
