    1. [CAN-BC] Help with non-mico-filmed marriage - STRAUBE/KOLONOSKY

    3. Hi List, I'm hoping SKS will be able to do a marriage look-up from 1897, that is not filmed. I had sent about 10 various look-up requests to the BC Genealogical Society and they sent back all but one. It only has a Reg. #. Would anyone out there be able to do the look-up in Victoria for me? I don't know if Vancouver would have it. It may just be a church record, I don't know. B.C Vital Stat's wants $50.00 to do the look-up. BCGS was much more reasonable. The information is: STRAUBE, Valentine and KOLONOSKY, Mary, married 16th of February, 1897. Reg.# - 1897-09-900201, not filmed, no GSU. I appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks, Judy Blackfalds, Alberta elista@telusplanet.net

    3. Hi Judy, Sorry I can't help. I do a number of lookups - and have found that the older ones - in the time frame of interest - are usually very sparse. Many even if filmed - are extremely difficult to read - and because they are so faint - do not print well, I have lost a number of dollars over time - attempting to get even a fairly readable print.- usually with 0 success - but a lot of extra notepaper. Do you know where Valentine STRAUBE and Mary KOLONOSKY - were married ? Kolonosky appears to be a Polish name - which leads to a possible R.C. ceremony. When doing lookups for these early marriages - I have found that the majority appear to take place at a residence rather than in a church. The information - found will have the name of the Groom - age - marital status - occupation - religion. name of parents - occupation of the father. Name of the bride - age - marital status - occupation - religion - name of parents - including maiden name of mother if known - name of minister - place of marriage. I can't remember if regs that early show names of witnesses. Death Registrations - and births of children - may prove more helpful - although the early births are also quite sparse as far as personal information contained. I found the following - including a death reg for Christina - nothing for Mary. If you like, I can take a look at the follwoing to see what information is contained - the marriage between Valentine A. Anch Christina - may show Valentine as a widower . I visit the library - quite often - it will not be out of my way - to take a look at these regs for you., it only takes a few minutes - once I manage to get the film and a reader. Perhaps Query -Vital Stats about the $50.00 fee - since this information would fall into the PUBLIC RECORD AREA - the charge may just be the $19.00 fee charged for Vital Events - records.that are deemed Public Record. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ YOUR VALENTINE STRAUBE ? - The Death Registration for the year 1967 - will have far more personal information than that found on the the Marriage Registration for 1897. Name - date and place of death. Date and place of death - name of spouse - name of parents -place of birth of parents - occupation - length of time at occupation - previous occupation. How long in municipality - how long in Province - how long in Canada (Information required varies over time ] Name and address of informant - relationship to deceased - Cause of death - name and address of Funeral Director /Home - place of burial /cremation - or !. The death registration is the least accurate of registrations - since most of the information depends on the knowledge of the informant - [spouses and children are sometimes not very knowledgeable about some of the personal info about the deceased] Name: Valentine Anthony Straube Event Date: 1967 5 7 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 78 Gender: male Event Place: North Vancouver Reg.
