My thanks to Stella, Gary, and Louise for volunteering to help identify this batch of photos. Some of them were noted, but even then the meaning isn't clear on some of them. I lived in Vancouver and North Van from ages 3-6, and spent my first grade in 3 schools, Capilano El, then a city school in Texas, and then a very rural school in Texas. The language was difficult for me at first in Texas, and the society was VERY different. I remember that February they were always talking about some guy named George Washington, and I remember asking my mother about him. :) But, almost every year we spent vacation time up in the Vancouver area, and I remember those long drives from Texas to Vancouver well (no air conditioning, 3 kids in the back of a VW beetle). We always made time for Stanley Park when we were visiting. At age 12 I flew up to Vancouver alone for the summer, and had a great time with my grandparents, aunt, and family friends. I've always felt quite at home in the Vancouver area, and our few trips out in the province. I have a long list of BC places that I'd still like to visit in future. I'll have more photos to share later. I hope to start digging out the old family steamer trunk soon, full of family stuff that was stored there over many decades, after the trunk helped move my Mom's parents from Glasgow in 1913.
