    3. I am looking for any surviving family of of a friend of my grandfather's from the First World War. He was Peter (Pete) Young MacLAGAN of Nashwaak Bridge and subsequently Fredericton, New Brunswick, and served with my grandfather Leslie (Les) PAYNE (1892-1975) in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. I have a couple of unfortunately undated newspaper cuttings from my grandfather's belongings relating to Pete MacLagan's death and funeral. These contain the following information: He was born at Taymouth in 1886, son of Miles & Margaret (Young) MacLagan. Prior to moving to Fredericton in 1936, he lived at Nashwaak Bridge. After 30 years service as a scaler and forest ranger with the Provincial Department of Lands and Mines, he retired in 1955. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was survived by his wife Margaret, of Fredericton, one brother, Roy, from Dewdney B.C., several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Pallbearers at the funeral were Harry WILSON, Leonard SWEENEY, Ralph FULLERTON, Albert NEILL, C.R. MacLAGGAN (sic), and Fred MacLAGGAN. During the "Blitz" in England in 1940, when there was talk of evacuating children to Canada, Peter MacLAGAN agreed to look after my father and his sister, although this never actually happened. I have a copy of the telegram to my grandfather, which states "Will be glad to take the children = Peter McClagan (sic)". I am researching the life of my grandfather in some detail, particularly his time during the First World War, and would be keen to track down any family to see if any photographs or memories of that period have survived. I'd be grateful for any help or advice on this matter, please. Thank you very much. --- Regards and best wishes, Brett Payne bpayne@xtra.co.nz Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand =================================================== FreeCEN 1891 Census Project - Derbyshire County Co-ordinator http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/dby_freecen1891.htm =================================================== South Derbyshire Genealogical Resources http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/sdindex.htm =================================================== Derbyshire Photographers' Index http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/dbyphoto_index.htm ===================================================
