    1. [CAN-BC] "Mr BC 1927" - George Jones, 571 Beattie Street, Vancouver and some other questions

    3. Hello everyone Strange question coming up - my gg uncle, George Jones, (to quote from an article about his death) "Physical culture was always his prime interest and his body was superbly conditioned. In 1927, at the age of 54, he entered the first contest to choose B.C.'s most perfectly developed man and won it." Is it possible to find out more about the 1927 Mr BC Contest? Are there any photos? Do I really want to see my gg uncle at age 54 in a strong man competition? :-) It also said that he was the president, then secretary-treasurer of the Masseurs' Society. Can I find out anything on this group? George worked wife my gr grandfather, (his brother) Charles Jones, as a blacksmith at 571 Beatty Street in Vancouver, when they first came here at the turn of the century. Are there any old photographs out there of the shop? Does anyone have information on the "Jones Institute of Physical Culture"? You guessed it - he founded it. As a side-note, George was quite a character. To quote again from the article from the June 26 1952 issue of the Province, "...many other interests included golf, horses, concert singing (he was from Wales! ;-) ), wrestling, oil and gold mining and sailing in his four cabin cruisers." "....he owned the first hansom cab in BC, which he drove regularly around Stanley Park." Thanks in Advance Taryn Jones Victoria
