A very kind person on the list sent me the obit for Mary Jane CHESWORTH, who lived in Victoria, but was previously of Ashton In Makerfield, Wigan, Lancashire, England. Apparently she suffered fatal injuries through a car and train accident at Colwood Crossing and died in August 1937. It is mentioned that "Worthy matron and officers of the Order of Eastern Star, Victoria Chapter No. 17, conducted their service at the funeral parlors before the remains were removed to the church". Is someone able to give me more information on this Order please? Barbara Colquitt, Wigan, Lancs, England.
