Hi Heather, Thanks for your reply. One question if I may: are your `on line' cemetery records current...or do they start some years back? A nephew told me he believes his uncle died in Prince George but was not sure. I've also heard from another source that he might have died in Duncan...or at least lived there. [Can anybody please have a look in Duncan? I'm simply searching through haystacks. Ron Davies Surrey, BC PS Might I trouble you for the names of the other Davieses buried in PG? http://www.islandnet.com/cgi-bin/ms2/rsd/search Is run by one person (to my knowledge) so updates to database can lag. He also updates the Ontario burial database (Lots of information to input) BC archives - according to Canada's "Privacy Act" information is available according to cut-off dates http://www2.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/www2vsb http://www2.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/www2vsd http://www2.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/www2vsm note the last letter of each URL (d = death, b = birth, m = marriage) > > Thanks for your reply. Would SKA, manage a lookup for: ROSMAN - especially records of those born, married or deceased on SALT SPRING ISLAND (this would include GANGES) Name: EDWARD ROSMAN Event Date: 1963 3 10 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 90 Gender: Male Event Place: SAANICH Reg. Number: 1963-09-003597 B.C. Archives Microfilm Number: B13260 GSU Microfilm Number: 2033502 Although the Event Place is completely different than I would expect.. the same name shows up in the same cemetery as my great-grandmother (Martha Mary ROSMAN w/o William McFADDEN) and is also the same as the informant on birth registration (also the only recorded Edward ROSMAN I have yet to find) TIA Dennice http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~goudied/index.html
May I point out that the BC and Ontario Cemetery Finding Aids are generally of cemetery transcriptions and not burial lists. In many cemeteries it is simply a transcription of what is on the headstone. So that someone could be buried and with no headstone the transcribers would not know who was in the plot. This is a picky point but as wonderful as the Cemetery Finding Aids are (kudos to Ron Demaray) they don't tell you everyone who is in a particular cemetery, just the ones with stones. Many new folk to this genealogy game may not be aware of this. Hi Roberta, Your point is well taken and how well I know. I currently have three cemeteries in which I seeking burial sites. They are not in the Cemetery Finding Aids [assuming the cemetery is included - not all are] and markers or headstones or tombstones cannot be found. Still I know the ancestors are there buried and old timers confirm it. They don't even exist in the cemetery records. In every case, it's believed the markers or stones have become buried and over grown by grass. Thanks for caring. Ron Davies Surrey, BC
Yes, Roberta, you can certainly point out whatever you wish. I can state, categorically as a person who has visited gravesides in British Columbia, especially, Vancouver Island, that are not listed are because of destruction of cemetery records as stated in correspondence with Ron Demeray. I can state (without generalizing) that the surnames, I've researched, that are listed in BCCFA are not only those with headstones or markers but unmarked graves (such as my sister who died when a few days old) With respect Dennice > May I point out that the BC and Ontario Cemetery Finding Aids are generally > of cemetery transcriptions and not burial lists.
