Read my latest column relating to Post 1901 Census at http://globalgazette.net/gazce/gazce70.htm Senate Committee hearings on Senator Lorna Milne's Bill S-12 have been tentatively set for 19 -20 September. I have been asked by Senator Milne to appear before this Committee and am currently working like mad to prepare for this. Submissions and letters to the Senate Committee are welcomed from the public. If you are intending to seek the support of Committee members for this Bill that seeks to allow the public access to Historic Census Records that we want, and need, the time to do so is NOW!!!! Your assistance by writing members of the Committee, encouraging them to support Bill S-12 and to not drag out and further delay discussion and passage of the Bill, is requested. The members of the Committee, and their email addresses are listed below. Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs Science & Technology: Sen. Catherine Callbeck (Liberal) callbc@sen.parl.gc.ca Sen. Erminie J. Cohen (Conservative) email: unavailable Sen. Joan Cook (Liberal) cookj@sen.parl.gc.ca Sen. Senator (name) Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology Parliament Buildings, Wellington Street Ottawa, Ontario Canada K1A 0A4 Letters to MPs, Senators, Prime Minister Jean Chretien, Industry Minister Brian Tobin, Heritage Minister Sheila Copps, and others are still needed. Likewise, signatures on petitions are required. We currently have received in excess of 20,000 signatures on petitions to the House of Commons and the Senate. It is not enough -- we need more. We must keep the pressure on our politicians to let them know that we do not intend to stop our efforts until we have succeeded in regaining public access to the Census records that belong to the people of Canada. Downloadable petitions on the Post 1901 Census Project website have just been updated with current provincial contacts listed. With your help we will succeed. Happy Hunting. Gordon A.
