    3. Season's Greetings, Is there anyone on the klist that can shed light on this mystery??? Thanks kindly Alan ------- Forwarded message follows ------- From: "Heather Carpenter" <bodcea@netcom.ca> To: <asanderc@futurenet.bc.ca> Subject: HELPLIST CANADA Date sent: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 12:31:53 -0800 Hello, I'm inquiring about the help list, and I'm hoping you can help me. I have recently undertaken the care of a lady by the name of Lois May Hobson (maiden name) Martin (married name), who is now suffering from Alzheimers. It is believed that she was born in either Kamloops or Kelowna March 12th in either 1937, or 1940. It is thought that her Fathers name was Owen Hobson and her mother Lucy (madien name unknown) Lois has spoken consistantly of a place called Lanark, which she remembers as a child. She thinks it may have been her church. I do hope you can help us. It has been realized that is was tramatized dreadfully as a child, but we are urgently trying with her daugher to find out where and when she was born. She has no record of a birth cirtificate. I do hope you can help us, or guide us. Any and all assistance would be GREATFULLY appreciated. Season Greeting and Kind Regards to you, Hilary Y. 3. Hi Alan My mother died of Alzheimers last year. It is a terrible thing for a family to go through. Thank God for caregivers. After reading your message for the second time, I question the caregiver's inquiry...she should be able to get whatever necessary information she needs for her caregiving from the daughter. Family documentation on a living family member is family business and is not necessary for the care of her patient. If the daughter wants to know more about her mother, or requires documentation for legal reasons, all she has to do is order her own long form Birth Cert. and that would give her mother's maiden name and her father's name, then... SHE can get her mother's birth certificate from Vital Statistics. 3. Good Morning Hilary Just a question: Are you searching for information - to ease questions that Lois May (Hobson) Martin may be having about her life and family? or for medical reasons. Please be careful about how information is presented to Lois - If she has Alzheimers or other problems - sometimes information given can also be fairly traumatic. My aunt - although usually very clear minded almost to the day of her death - had a problem with some over medication - as well as a problem between two medications administrated together - when they should not have been - made her a little confused. When she asked about her parents - and brothers - all deceased ( 3 prior to her own birth) - and was told that they were no longer living - she became very distressed to learn that they were no longer with us - and was determined that this was not true - that she had done something ( getting old) which made them mad at her - she went into a depression for over 3 months.(until meds were removed). Has their been a search for family papers.? A legal representative - for Lois May HOBSON - can have a search made for the birth registration at the B.C. Vital Stats. If the daughter is the legal representative for her mother - she may be able to make this application - otherwise - a lawyer - or perhaps the family doctor - can make this request. The cost will be $50.00 I believe - unless the circumstances make a difference. Has a search been made - through Newspapers for the time frame of March 12 1937 or 1940. Some families in those days did publish the births in the local newspapers. Marriages were also sometimes more frequently published than they are today. Perhaps contacting a Volunteer in Kamloops or Kelowna - or Contact the Public Libraries for those areas - they may have copies of newspapers for those times, archived on microfilm - and may offer a search. Did Lois May Hobson - live her young life in Kamloops /Kelowna - or did she live in the Lower Mainland. There is a street - named Lanark Street in Vancouver - perhaps that is the Lanark that she is referring to ? In your message - you mention Traumatized dreadfully as a child ! - In what way - perhaps knowing this would help to find more information about Lois. Has a Marriage Certificate for Lois May MARTIN ( nee Hobson) been searched for? The certificate will not hold much useful information for research - but may be helpful in possibly determining the birth year of Lois - if she was a first born. The Marriage Registration will hold more information - name and place of birth of both parties - names of parents - address at time of marriage etc - the Marriage Registration will cost $50.00 unless the marriage occurred to 1925 - when it would now be considered Public Record - free to search. Is the husband of Lois May MARTIN (nee Hobson) Still living ? If Not - perhaps a search for his death registration - and obituary - may lead to some information that you are searching for. Were there any other siblings of Lois May Hobson - perhaps they can help if you can find them. If they are deceased - their death registrations (may now be Public Record) or obituaries may be of some help. 1940" REGISTRATION of ALL CANADIANS over the age of 16 years: In the early 1940's we had the National Registration of All Canadians over the age of 16 years. This information can be obtained at the following: The fee is $48.15 - returned if no information is found. http://www.tbaytel.net/bmartin/natreg.htm http://www.statcan.ca/english/IPS/Data/93C0006.htm There is a death Registration for:the following - perhaps the mother of Lois? A search of this registration and the obituary may help. determine whether this person is related - 1 Name: LUCY AMY HOBSON Event Date: 1971 1 7 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 62 Gender: Female Event Place: VANCOUVER Reg. Number: 1971-09-001138 B.C. Archives Microfilm Number: B13308 GSU Microfilm Number: 2034216 Has the daughter obtained her own Birth Registration ( not certificate which only contains the very basic information needed for proof of I.D. etc). The death registration of the daughter will have her won date and place of birth - but should have the full names of both parents - the birth places of both parents - may include whether there were other siblings already born to the couple. The occupation - of the father - religion etc. The Cost of the Birth Registration will cost $50.00 I will be doing some lookups at the Library - not until next week - Holiday obligations. and can search the above registration and let you know if this person is related to your Lois. Please let me know if others have already made this offer. Wishing you a Very Happy New Year 2002. Cheers, Stella ------ Forwarded message follows ------- From: "Heather Carpenter" <bodcea@netcom.ca> To: <asanderc@futurenet.bc.ca> Subject: HELPLIST CANADA Date sent: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 12:31:53 -0800 Hello, I'm inquiring about the help list, and I'm hoping you can help me.
