Hi, I am new to the list. I am trying to find any family that are descended from my fathers cousins, Harry JOBES born 1887 at Sunderland County Durham England and his brother Wiliam JOBES born 1889 at Crossgate Moor, County Durham England They were the sons of Henry JOBES and Sarah Ann Elizabeth née GIPSON. They were last known to be in New Westminster British Columbia Canada in 1911. They seem to have disappeared after a family tragedy and family in the UK would like to make contact with any descendants if possible. Daphne Hughes

Have you verified the loation in New Westminster on the 1911 census - the present 1911 census? There is a national census searches site, cost $45 per person, returned if not found and it would be worth the money to find them -- census open to about 1991, about 20 years behind our present online one. Here is the address -- you do not have to use Mr. Paul Johnson, as I saw the address online without the name. Census Pension Searches Unit Census Operations Division Statistics Canada B 1 E - 34, Jean Talon Building Tunney's Pasture Ottawa, ON K1A 0T6 FAX (613) 951-5969 There is an online site which also give a telephone number. Hi Daphne - I was able to get out - and into town - late today - and took a look at the Death Registrations. Copied same -These early ones hold very little information. Sarah's is readable - 4 tries for Henry - one is barely readable. Searched for Obits in one of the Vancouver papers - but time was so limited that I did not succeed. William is the one who discovered Sarah's body. Looked at City Directories - and all three men were living at the same address. Searched the Directories - to the 1913 - *information taken for the directories in 1912. Harry appears in the 1913 directory. I searched the Daily Province newspaper - for the date of Sarah's death. Information on the front page -attempted to copy - but the copy is unreadable. If I can manage to get out - again - soon. - I will check with the New Westminster Public Library. The Coroners office should be able to assist you - for both. Sarah and Henry. There should be court records - Perhaps now in the custody of the Provincial Archive in Victoria? Searched the Online White Pages Directories - for JOBES surname 37 Listings Nationwide - Canada - perhaps some family connected. 7 in British Columbia. 5 in Manitoba. 19 in Nova Scotia 6 in Ontario Cheers, Stella At 01:22 PM 26/02/2007, DAPHNE HUGHES wrote: >Hi, I am new to the list. > > I am trying to find any family that are descended from my fathers cousins, > > Harry JOBES born 1887 at Sunderland County Durham England > and his brother > Wiliam JOBES born 1889 at Crossgate Moor, County Durham England > They were the sons of > Henry JOBES and Sarah Ann Elizabeth née GIPSON. > They were last known to be in New > Westminster British Columbia Canada in 1911. > They seem to have disappeared after a family > tragedy and family in the UK would like to make > contact with any descendants if possible. > > Daphne Hughes > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an >email to >CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-request@rootsweb.com with >the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the >subject and the body of the message
