Hello I am new to the list and trying to find information on my great Uncle. His name was William Barlow and I have just discovered his Attestation Papers signed in September 1814. William was born in Bolton Lancs in 1884 and was last seen in the 1901 census there. Some time after that he left for Canada where he worked as a water inspector. He is married to Robina. His address looks like Hamiford Street Vancouver BC. There is a question on the Attestation paper that reads have you ever been in any Military Force and he answers yes, five and a half years in L.N.L Reg. Would anyone know if that would be the Loyal North Lancs back in Lancashire? William entered the number 3 Field Ambulance with the number 33250 as a st. Sgt. I am trying to find out if Williams Unit ever came to England and what happened to William after this time. I believe he survived the war and had a family, if he married in Canada how would I go about tracing the certificate. I know I have asked lots of questions and would be would be grateful for any answers Thanks in advance Maureen
Hi Maureen - I found this in the Canadian War Dead site at www.cwgc.org. Since it doesn't give his parents' names it is hard to say for sure if it is the same man. - Karen BARLOW, WILLIAM Initials: W Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment: The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Unit Text: 6th Bn.
