Hi, I've heard that Keefers is no longer is existence, but here's 6 pictures of a busy place in 1929. First, there's now 3 workers feeding a begging bear out back of the kitchen, several pictures of the construction, and Dad at age 9 with 2 of the workers at Christmas. Jim
Hi, This set has 2 pictures of the bridge construction with heavy machinery building it across from each side, one of my grandparents, Dad as a kid, and rail workers celebrating Christmas 1929 in a snowy scene. I believe the silly hats would be from Christmas Crackers. Finally, there's 2 bears begging food at the rear of the cookhouse. Next page will have one with more bears, and more people feeding them. :) Let me know if you'd like to see any. Jim
Hi, These pictures include a family (2?) next to an automobile along an unpaved road somewhere in BC, my grandmother Catherine at the edge of the Kootenay River full of cut logs, Harry Blakey, who's pictured previously with a horse pack train, now with his wife in front of their mine named Flagstone, and a shot of the same mine from further away. As always, if you'd like to see any of them, just ask. Jim
That is the proper name for the town-Cedar. It is a few kilometres south east of Nanaimo. Hi, I have a death registration from 1985 that shows the deceased lived at Cortenay, and died at St. Joseph's hospital in Comox. He was cremated and the place of disposition is "Island Crematorium, Cedar, B.C." I haven't been able to find Island Crematorium, Cedar, B.C. so I'm wondering if this is the proper name, and if so, where would it be? I'm also looking for suggestions as to which newspaper or library I should contact about an obituary? Thanks, Kathy
Kathy, You are probably looking for Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens at: Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens & Crematorium 2347 Cedar Road Nanaimo, BC V9X 1J7 (250) 722-2244 I tried to find a website, but was unable. This beautiful Cemetery on Vancouver Island is in a rural area between Ladysmith and Nanaimo called Cedar. Hopefully someone else can help with your Obit search. Hi, The first is another photo of Mount Kokanee. Then there are a group of miners on the trail up to the Molly Gibson mine. Finally, there's 2 at Stave Lake. I wonder if this was before or after the reservoir was built. Let me know if you'd like to see any of them. Jim Bundy
Hi, These all seem to be in the area of and around the Molly Gibson mine, near Salmo. The first one is a photo from the mine up towards the mountain top where the mine was located. The second one is of an 80 ft tower associated I'm sure with the tramway down to Kootenay Lake. The third one is of some mountain in the Kootenays with several climbers on it. I can imagine my grandparents being up there too, as they were both excellent hikers. Jim
Hi, In this set is one of a friend or cousin of my grandmother Catherine Purcell, taken at a photography studio, probably in England, Percy Horton in his WW1 uniform except for a German PICKELHAUBE spike helmet, which I guess he'd have gotten while in France, Granddad in a 3 piece suit, as he tended to always wear except when working, and one of the many boarding houses where the Bundys lived while in Vancouver, probably on Davie Street. The changes that have happened to West End areas like Davie Street are incredible! As a child, I can remember many of the old boarding houses still there, in the 1950's. Jim
Hi, These photos include one of the Kitsault River, located at the very northwest corner of BC in a very wild area to this day from my google searches, a Percy Horton in WW1 uniform. I know there were Hortons who mined in the Salmo area. Then there's Granddad ready to flatten someone with his well trained boxing skills that he learned in England, some couple somewhere next to a trellis (Vancouver?), friends I guess, Catherine Purcell with a friend at what looks like the Capilano River, and them at a beach, somewhere around Vancouver, and Leonard and Catherine with 6 friends, I'd guess in Vancouver. Let me know if you want to see any. Jim Bundy
Thanks to all for the replies. Wait, wait wait. A change of subject. I was at Cloverdale library today and found the number of two wills I want to check out- 1969 & 1970 but Cloverdale only has the wills up tp 1948. Does anyone know if Vancouver Public Library has them? Their catalogue didn't help me answer this question. They wait til the END of a year, then release the records in the next month, January. So we've just had the release of the 1986 death records. And the marriage records for 1931, because of the 75 year restriction on them. No more births until they are 120 years in the past. 1987 deaths will be released in January 2008. Hello Janet, thank you very much for your offer, you are very kind. I do have a copy of both Charles' death certs, my 11th cousin (totally different line to this one) drove down from Sidney and got copies for me. (Apparently it's quite drive, so I haven't asked for other stuff, they no doubt have other things to do while down in Victoria). I was one of the transcribers for the 1901 Candian census indexing project, a year or two back, I've not offered to do any of the 1911 as I've enough on my plate right now. Hello John I looked in ancestry.ca for both Charles Edward Seymour and Elizabeth McFarlane Dods. I found a possible death registration for Charles, and also a 1901 Canadian Census mention for a Elizabeth Seymour, age 65, born in Quebec in 1835. She is living in Vancouver in 1901 with a Charles E. Seymour, age 77, and what I'm guessing is their two children, Geo. W. Seymour, aged 35, and Mary L. Seymour, age 28. I live in Victoria, BC, where the BC Archives are located for the province. I could look up the Charles' death certificate for you the next time I'm down there if you wish. The death certificate usually has more information about the person on it. If you feel this is the right person, just let me know if you want me to go ahead with this on my next visit to the Archives. The Canadian Census information is free and at www.ancestry.ca. It will open on a 'search' page. Just type in either Charles' or Elizabeth's name and it will turn up the 1901 Canadian Census in a list of vital events and other entries. I used Elizabeth's name and found her right at the top of the first page. Hello this is my first post to this list. I picked put a copy of a post on the list listing death notices from the British Coulmbiam in 1916, including Charles Edward SEYMOUR who married Elizabeth McFarlane DODS (my great-grandmother Mary Catherine Dods, nee DODS, sister). Both the DODS & SEYMOUR families moved out to BC from Montreal at the turn of the century. Charles & Elizabeth's son, Charles Edward SEYMOUR was a Steamer Captain, he died in 1928 onboard his steamer the S.S. Skeena, in New Westminister. The DODS family had a firm P D Dods Ltd, which manfactured Paint, it had branches in Montreal, Vancouver & I think Toronto. I don't know what happened to the firm maybe it went belly up in the depression. If any can help, I'd love to hear from you. John Dods Wellington, New Zealand Proud to be a transcriber for the freeCEN Project and volunteer for Random Acts of Geneological Kindness Ask me how you can contribute to either of these worthy projects or for other ways of helping our hobby. Hi, This set includes 2 photos at Denman Island in 1921, one of the logging camp cookhouse in winter at Wycliffe BC, a lumber mill with snow, a train on a hillside somewhere taken in winter, and a photo of 5 staff at a cookhouse somewhere in BC. Let me know if you'd to see any. Jim
