Tammy L. Vallee, of Saskatoon posted the following Letter to the Editor in the March 24, 2007 issue of the Star Phoenix - please take heed, as only 55% said YES for release of family data in 2098. For those who do not say YES, there could be only obituaries to assist research. Also some state they never received 2006 census forms. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Genealogists and family historians view the 2006 census results with saddened hearts. Only 55 percent of the 31.6 million people counted answered "YES" to releasing their census information in 92 years. Some may not be aware of the seriousness of this question and its impact on future generations. The privacy of personal information is paramount in today's society. >From the perspective of family history, however, the privacy laws risks sealing recordsthat are key sources in tracing a family tree. http://www.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/news/letters/story.html?id=64850d26-4e2f [Copy of what is being typed as timing of letters is often brief] Most of us will have passed on in 92 years. [only Obituaries?] By then, four generations could have come along and produced the next family historian seeking information. Where will that genealogist go for information on grandparents or great-grandparents? Genealogists tuen to such records as the census in hopes of finding information. Their glimmer of hope will soon fade to disappointment and heartache if their ancestors have refused to release personal census information. Those who answer "NO" must have a reason, but is it one that your great-grandchild might accept in 92 years? Those who didn't bother to answer YES or NO to the census question are letting someone else decide for them. For a genealogist, the issue is not what answers were given on the census, but that in 92 years there's proof that you existed. The data provides a better understanding of who you were and where you lived. There is still a chance to change your answer to a "YES". http://www.12.statscan.ca:80/english/census06/reference/info/request.cfm Tammy L. Vallee, Saskatoon - - - - - - - Muriel M. Hi, Could someone give advice on where to locate (if at all possible) adoption records for 1965? Or maybe there is someone on this list researching this Gudmundson/Gundmundson family from Vancouver? This is what we have ; Kenneth Robert Gudmundson or Gundmundson was born 0n 11 January 1965 in Vancouver. His birth mothers name was possible Marjorie or Marg? He was adopted shortly after birth as Kenneth Allan Acott. He was again adopted in 1971 as Kenneth Allan Britton. We have no info about the Acott family but we do have lots of information on the Brittons. If someone can give us advice or information as were or how to find his biological family we would very much appreciate it. Please reply directly to schommelman@yahoo.com if you have sensitive information. Cordially Peter __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! To all -- Transcribing is progressing slowly but surely in the last three provinces to be finished. ALBERTA ....................72.42% BRITISH COLUMBIA...76.48% SASKATCHEWAN........83.61% Several new transcribers said they would like to try doing this, which is great as many of the first ones are correcting pages. Please remember -- 50 (or more) lines make a page and if anyone wants great advice, read Frequently Asked Questions - located where one signs in. This has advice for any situation one might find -- and ways to fix these. Let's see what next weekend's percentages are! Muriel M. Davidson Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee
Hello I have made a slide show of the few photographs I have of my father Bill Hamilton. I thought maybe if I sent it around, someone may see and recognize him. It has sound, so be sure your speakers are on. Hi, I've just scanned a photo with my Mom and Aunt, but also a friend named Wendy Meridith. If she sounds familiar, I'd be happy to share the photo. As in many of the photos, it was taken at the Capilano River. Jim Bundy

Hi, I just scanned a photo with my Mom and Aunt, but also 2 other young women, all in swimsuits at the Capilano River (BBRR). They are identified as May Band and Jessie Band, and it indicates that May's last name (later?) changed to Cycak/Cyeak(?). The photo was taken in 1935, so my Mom and aunt were about 20 years old. Let me know if you'd like to see it. Jim Bundy
To all -- With only three provinces remaining to be transcribed, it would be great to look forward to all three being fully transcribed. We find Alberta is at 71.64%; British Columbia at 76.33% and Saskatchewan at 83.21% Should one be looking for a page to transcribe, start with Moosejaw at 71.28% Others are: Prince Albert ................64.86% {no action] Qu'Appelle....................79.95% Regina...........................69.00% Saltcoats........................72.64% Saskatoon.....................83.72% Transcribers should refer to the Frequently Asked Questions -- they will learn there must be at least 50 lines to a page, even if some are blank. Do NOT skip blank lines in the middle of a page. Many transcribers seem to leave pages with 49 lines, and some pages are unreadable -- still the 50 lines per page is what is needed. Also, if a transcriber does not feel confident about his/her work, do not claim the page so someone else is able to check it. Should anyone have a question -- I will obtainthe answer or give the answer if I know it. Spring is finally here -- although I see snow still lingering in my area. Wonder what we can accomplish by Easter? Muriel M. Davidson Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee
