One is to pay BC Archives the amount requested online. Least expensive is to visit the Archives yourself or a kind soul do the research for you (photocopies contain the same information and one can obtain many more when purchasing on speculation than we could manage at $25 CDN per one copy - I've been lucky enough to get a higher return on registrations of all types generally 75% are actually related). Another method is to visit an LDS FHC (Latter Day Saints Family History Centre) which you can find the nearest one to you by searching near you (If you do not get a response via telephone fhl@ldschurch.org will send via snail mail request forms for photocopies of records. I received a handy genealogy research guide and a bundle of request forms #31768 - "Request for photocopies - Census Records, Books, Mocrofilm or Microfiche" which you can find at the following link http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp OR some of the universities - SFU (Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria - etc) Death registrations with search criteria of Wintrip gave 12 results. 3. Dear Bob, I checked the BC Archives death registrations at http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm#indexes and found the following which could really confuse things for you given the births that you mentioned in your posting: Name: ROBERT WINTRIP Event Date: 1899 9 16 (Yr/Mo/Day) Age: 77 Gender: Male Event Place: BARKERVILLE DISTRICT Reg. 3. Hi Bob - I don't know if you found these or not, but Elizabeth, Lewis and Oliver are all in the SSDI at http://www.ancestry.netscape.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm Lewis died in Idaho in 1973 and Oliver in Washington in 1974 and Elizabeth died in Washington in 1966. It is possible that Robert also died in the States. The SSDI only has information on those who received a lump sum at the time of their death, so it does not mean that Robert didn't die there also. You can order copies of the SSDI applications for $7 US each. It will give their parents names, date and place of birth etc. They even have a signature. I have checked the Barkerville cemetery listings but did not find Robert there either. - Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Wintrip <bob_wintrip@bc.sympatico.ca> To: <CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 5:52 PM Subject: [CAN-BC] lost Great Grandfather > Hello Folks, > I was so impressed with your incredible response the first time I sought help in trying to find info on my GrandAunt Mary Ann > Scott[nee Wintrip], that I thought that I would ask for your help again. I am trying to find the final resting place of my Great Grandfather Robert Wintrip, I do not have a birth certificate for him, but he was born in 1867 in Sunderland, England. He married Elizabeth Sell, she was born in Croydon, England, June 12 1870, they emigrated to Limerock Connecticut USA around 1890, and had 6 children, 4 were born in Connecticut, one being my Grandfather Robert Edward Wintrip, born March 21 1894. Around 1898 > they migrated west and settled in Hoquiam Wash. In 1900 Robert and Elizabeth were in Barkerville B C, Robert along with several other Wintrips were mining for gold, and Elizabeth gave birth on Sept 26 1900 to Lewis Wintrip, and then in 1902 Elizabeth gave birth to Oliver Wintrip, I don't know where Oliver was born. 1. [CAN-BC] French Canadian, Hawaiian, and Scottish folk in Fort Langley...
    2. DW
    3. Hi everyone... I picked this up from the Rootsweb Review and thought I should pass it along in case some of you didn't see it... Deborah ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ by Lisa Peppan lisapeppan@juno.com Prior to his immigration to the U.S.A., my ancestor Seymour PEPPAN was known as Simon PEPPIN. His parents were Etienne and sabelle/Elizabeth PEPPAN. Etienne PEPPAN had used five surnames during his lifetime: MAY, PEPIN, MAILLE, MAGICE, and PEPPIN. (Simon PEPPAN was baptized as Simon MAGICE.) In 1867, Etienne PEPIN signed on with the Hudson's Bay Company in Quebec, Canada, and was sent west to Fort Langley on the Fraser River in what is now British Columbia. Between 1827 and 1858, 106 men worked at Fort Langley: 32 were French-Canadian, 30 were Hawaiian (then called Sandwich Islanders or Kanakas and sometimes "Owyhee"), seven were of mixed descent (also known as Metis), 10 were from Scotland's Orkney Islands, eight were Scottish Highlanders, five Scottish Lowlanders, five were Iroquois, seven were English, and two were "other." For the most part, they raised families with local girls from the Kwantlen, Stollo, and Musqueam nations of British Columbia's lower mainland and Fraser Valley. Twenty-four individuals who descend from the fort's employees, the Children of Fort Langley, now research among other things the Pioneer Cemetery at St. George's Anglican Church in Fort Langley. Surviving documentation and a side-scan radar indicate that about 24 individuals are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, and there could be more. There are three headstones -- two of marble and one of wood -- for Sarah BREWSSEAU (nee PIERRE); Ovid ALLARD, Jr.; and the infant son of Henry and Eliza PEERS. The names of Ovid ALLARD and William Henry NEWTON appear on a memorial marker that alludes to others buried there. A large black wrought iron cross over the front entrance of the church has the names "Pion Pion" and "Katrina" worked across its center. Pion Pion, or Peeopeeoh, is said to have been the Kanaka who named Kanaka Creek; Katrina was his Kwantlen wife. A 1927 newspaper clipping says that Etienne PEPIN, who plowed the first furrow in British Columbia, died at Fort Langley and was buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in 1874. This gives us 8 out of 24, from a list of 36 potential burials. The rest of the candidates are: >From the "known with reasonable certainty" list: S. ALLARD, Joseph ALLARD, William CROMARTY, Elizabeth DAWSON nee CROMARTY, Ann CROMARTY, and Catherine TAYLOR nee FALADREAU. >From the "suspected" list: Basil BROUSSEAU Sr.; Rose, first wife of Basil BROUSSEAU Sr.; Marianne, second wife of Basil BROUSSEAU Sr.; Narcisse FALARDEAU, Jr.; Noel FALARDEAU; Eugene ALLARD; Marie ALLARD; Mathilde ALLARD; Laurent ALLARD; Isabelle, wife of Etienne PEPIM; and David CROMARTY. Hawaiians Tai I and Laowala, and Scot/Brit Napoleon DEASE, died at the fort before the opening of the Municipal Cemetery and might be buried in the Pioneer Cemetery. Wavicareerea, Ohier, Peter APNAUT/OHULE, and Robert WAVICAREEREA were Hawaiians who stayed in the Fraser Valley but their burial places are unknown. Kekepalale, Kekoa, Alexandre LATRIELLE, and Cyprien DIONNE are missing. St. George's Anglican Church would like to know who is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, as would the Children of Fort Langley. Any additional information would be most welcome. 3. Hello To All, could someone please point me in the right direction. I have been trying to find my KILBY people for several years, each clue has lead me to a dead end. Any information or advise on tracing my KILBY people will be appreciated. Here goes: There were two spinster sisters by the name of KILBY living at 4762 The Highway West Vancouver BC also in Caulfield BC and 1261 Beach Avenue Vancouver BC. This would nave been in between the years 1930 to 1951, perhaps earlier. The sisters owned or managed a hardware store in Vancouver and in 1938 asked my father who was living in England to come to Vancouver and manage the store so they could retire. WW2 started and my father joined The British Army. Again in 1948 to 1951 they asked again but my father chose to emigrate to Australia. A lady from Canada sent me some KILBY Social Security names/deaths, I have downloaded the names of Female KILBY deaths in Vancouver 1938 to 1968, but none of the names check out on the IGI. Can some kind person look up a Directory, Poll Book, Electoral Roll or old Phone Book for my KILBY ladies? It would certainly be much appreciated and I am willing to do some Australian research if required. I will patiently wait for your welcome replies. Kind Regards from Anne in Australia.

    1. [CAN-BC] Post 1901 Census - Presentation of petitions
    2. Gordon A. Watts
    3. Greetings All. FYI. The following extracts from Hansard show the latest petitions to be presented by Senator Lorna Milne in the Senate, and MP Murray Calder in the House of Commons. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted. =================== Tuesday, May 8, 2001 Access to Census Information -- Presentation of Petitions Hon. Lorna Milne: Honourable senators, I have the honour today to present 1,394 signatures from Canadians in the provinces of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia who are researching their ancestry, as well as signatures from 116 people from the United States and 17 from Great Britain who are researching their Canadian roots. A total of 1,527 people are petitioning the following: Your petitioners call upon Parliament to take whatever steps necessary to retroactively amend Confidentiality-Privacy clauses of Statistics Acts since 1906, to allow release to the Public after a reasonable period of time, of Post 1901 Census reports starting with the 1906 Census. So far I have now presented petitions with 9,734 signatures to the Thirty-seventh Parliament. The numbers are climbing. I have presented petitions with over 6,000 signatures to the Thirty-sixth Parliament, all calling for immediate action on this very important matter of Canadian history. ========================= Thursday, May 17, 2001 PETITIONS -- CENSUS RECORDS Mr. Murray Calder (Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, I rise to present another petition to the House calling for the release of historic census records to the public. The petition is signed by more than 5,500 Canadians. Combined with the signatures of the previous petitions that I have presented on this subject in this session of parliament, the total number is now over 9,000. The petition points out that an estimated 7.5 million Canadians are engaged in the pursuit of their family history and that census records are a valuable tool for such research. The records have been used in historical research, for tracing genetic diseases and in settling wills and estates. The petitioners are calling upon parliament to take whatever steps are necessary to retroactively amend confidentiality clauses of the Statistics Act since 1906 to allow the release to the public, after a reasonable period of time, the post 1901 census records.

    2. Hi all, I was overwhelmed with the amount to responses to my posting, offers to help and hints! Thank you all. This is a great List! My concern with this family is to return the Family Bible of Riley P. Walrod to a direct descendant, at this point in time it would likely be a great grandchild. As far as I can tell the bible passed from Riley to his son Leslie Fayette who resided at 740 Harvey Ave. Kelowna. Leslie died Nov 14th 1962. That is the last event recorded in the bible. I will try the Phone search that you all mentioned. As one lister mentioned few people will know their family's history that far back, so I might come up with nothing and have to use another avenue. Will let you know what I find! Thanks again, Sue in Wisconsin

I'll type out the list of voters, one letter at a time and send it to the list. Please look it up at your local library if at all possible. If you don't live in BC, send me the name you want to know more about and I'll look for it for you as time permits. Here are the TUV's: TAIT, John R. TAIT, Thomas TALCOTT, E. W. TARDILL, F. W.
