    3. Yes, Roberta, you can certainly point out whatever you wish. I can state, categorically as a person who has visited gravesides in British Columbia, especially, Vancouver Island, that are not listed are because of destruction of cemetery records as stated in correspondence with Ron Demeray. I can state (without generalizing) that the surnames, I've researched, that are listed in BCCFA are not only those with headstones or markers but unmarked graves (such as my sister who died when a few days old) With respect Dennice > May I point out that the BC and Ontario Cemetery Finding Aids are generally > of cemetery transcriptions and not burial lists. 2. Ron Davies
    3. Hi Roberta, Your point is well taken and how well I know. I currently have three cemeteries in which I seeking burial sites. They are not in the Cemetery Finding Aids [assuming the cemetery is included - not all are] and markers or headstones or tombstones cannot be found. Still I know the ancestors are there buried and old timers confirm it. They don't even exist in the cemetery records. In every case, it's believed the markers or stones have become buried and over grown by grass. Thanks for caring. Ron Davies Surrey, BC

    3. May I point out that the BC and Ontario Cemetery Finding Aids are generally of cemetery transcriptions and not burial lists. In many cemeteries it is simply a transcription of what is on the headstone. So that someone could be buried and with no headstone the transcribers would not know who was in the plot. This is a picky point but as wonderful as the Cemetery Finding Aids are (kudos to Ron Demaray) they don't tell you everyone who is in a particular cemetery, just the ones with stones. Many new folk to this genealogy game may not be aware of this. 1. [CAN-BC] MacLAGAN Dewdney B.C.
    2. Brett Payne
    3. I am looking for any surviving family of of a friend of my grandfather's from the First World War. He was Peter (Pete) Young MacLAGAN of Nashwaak Bridge and subsequently Fredericton, New Brunswick, and served with my grandfather Leslie (Les) PAYNE (1892-1975) in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. I have a couple of unfortunately undated newspaper cuttings from my grandfather's belongings relating to Pete MacLagan's death and funeral. These contain the following information: He was born at Taymouth in 1886, son of Miles & Margaret (Young) MacLagan. Prior to moving to Fredericton in 1936, he lived at Nashwaak Bridge. After 30 years service as a scaler and forest ranger with the Provincial Department of Lands and Mines, he retired in 1955. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was survived by his wife Margaret, of Fredericton, one brother, Roy, from Dewdney B.C., several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Pallbearers at the funeral were Harry WILSON, Leonard SWEENEY, Ralph FULLERTON, Albert NEILL, C.R. MacLAGGAN (sic), and Fred MacLAGGAN. During the "Blitz" in England in 1940, when there was talk of evacuating children to Canada, Peter MacLAGAN agreed to look after my father and his sister, although this never actually happened. I have a copy of the telegram to my grandfather, which states "Will be glad to take the children = Peter McClagan (sic)". I am researching the life of my grandfather in some detail, particularly his time during the First World War, and would be keen to track down any family to see if any photographs or memories of that period have survived. I'd be grateful for any help or advice on this matter, please. Thank you very much. --- Regards and best wishes, Brett Payne bpayne@xtra.co.nz Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand =================================================== FreeCEN 1891 Census Project - Derbyshire County Co-ordinator http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/dby_freecen1891.htm =================================================== South Derbyshire Genealogical Resources http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/sdindex.htm =================================================== Derbyshire Photographers' Index http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/dbyphoto_index.htm ===================================================

    2. Ron Davies
    3. Hello Dennice, Thank you for finding the archival death record of Gordon Davies. It gives me something to go on to ensure it's the correct Gordon Davies. There are several Davies families in these parts with many common names. Highly confusing. I'll try to find somebody to look up the information. Less than a year ago, the search drew blanks for both persons I seek. Perhaps the release limits are preventing the finding of Ronald Lewis Davies. Thanks, too, for the URLs. While I've used the cemeteries URL often, I wasn't aware that the BC Archives is on line. There are several options available - perhaps, SKS (some kind soul) will be close to either BC Archives or a FHC (Family History Centre - which uses the GSU microfilm number) to somehow get a copy of the registration or its information to you (registrations, generally, contain more information - which can add to leads and/or family database) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp The link above ought to be entered as one line, will allow you to find a FHC close to your current abode at which you can familiarize yourself with tools available (they (volunteers) will order in the microfilm you require and show you how to use the equipment on hand. 3. Hello All I especially direct this message to the good folks of the Mission/Abbotsford/Chilliwack areas. I am seeking information re Margaret Vanderburgh, a daughter of George Edgerton Vanderburgh and Jennie Willa Campbell. I believe Margaret to have been born in Indian Head, SK where her parents resided. When I last saw Margaret, a cousin, she was teaching in Sault Ste. Marie, ON but I've since seen a note that indicated she may have later taught in the Fraser Valley, perhaps Abbotsford. Where she went from there is unknown. Would any user happen to have known of her or be in a position to check with school boards in any of the aforementioned towns for any helpful clues. The last time I saw Margaret would have been the mid 1940s I think. If still living, she would be in her very early 90s. Unfortunately, my health prevents me from getting out to do my own searching. Thanks for reading. Ron Davies Surrey, BC
