To all:- Gordon Watts posted a memo earlier today, announcing a new GOLD TICK AWARD -- designed to help all of us keep up to date. It takes a great deal of his time to prepare the pages for being updated by Global Genealogy -- and in that time period we could be sending letters requesting support for both C-312 and S-12. It is suggested the Scoreboard pages be printed -- then when Gordon publishes the next recipients of the GOLD TICK AWARD we will be able to keep up-to-date. Senator Lorna Milne fully approves this new type of list. Muriel M. Greetings All. I have spent most of the last 16 hours working on updating files for the Post 1901 Census Project website. I have a ways to go yet before I am caught up but post here for your information the names of Senators that have so far earned their gold tick by supporting Senator Lorna Milne's Bill S-12. There are now fifteen of them. They are: Jack Austin, Thelma Chalifoux, Raynell Andreychuk, Sharon Carstairs, Janis G. Johnson, Richard H. Croft. Mira Spivak, John Trevor Eyton, Michael A. Meighen, Lorna Milne, Vivienne Poy, Joan Fraser, Pierre Claude Nolin, Eymard G. Corbin, and William Rompkey. Nicholas W. Taylor and Lowell Murray would vote against the Bill. Files will be sent tomorrow and the updates should appear on the website within a few days. My thanks to all who have sent letters and email sent to, and received from their MPs and Senators. Keep them coming. Happy Hunting Gordon A. Hi everyone, Like many of us on the list, I enjoy getting copies of BC Vital Records to send to people who live in places where they can't access the films easily. Today, I was at SFU Library and picked up lots of good information to send out to people. Unfortunately however, there was one missing film and of course, I had two records I needed on that film. Then when I arrived home, I received a request to copy another record. I wonder if anyone would be able to get these 3 and mail them to me. I'd like to get them off to people and I won't be able to get to the Vancouver Public Library or Cloverdale for a while. The next time I go to SFU, maybe film # 13221 will still be missing. If you can help, just reply to this message and I'll be sure to get back to you and let you know if I need to take you up on a offer to help, or if someone else already said they'd do it. I know that this is the kind of list where you're far more likely to get several offers of help, rather than none. Hi Bonnie Essondale is in Coquitlam BC near Vancouver. in 1942 It was the name and site of the Provincial Mental Hospital [now Riverside Hospital] and also the Home for the Aged [Valleyview]. Although she died at Essondale she is probably not buried there but in one of the many cemeteries in the area. Hi, I am looking for information on my great grandparents who lived in Vancouver from 1923 until their deaths. Charles Alexander Chatterson was a detective and owner of the Chatterson Detective Agency. He died on March 30, 1939 in Vancouver, age 73. Does anyone know how I might find their obituarys? If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate a clue in the puzzle. Thanks, Bonnie Slade
Carol, In reply to your query about where one could find a fiche reader, I remember a post on another list which suggested that one could try places which "deal" in parts. For example, many, if not all, automobile dealerships had fiche readers in their parts and repair departments to view parts catalogues and assembly diagrams. Another source might be the many "little" parts autoparts warehouses which supply generic or out-of-production auto parts such as to spark plugs, light bulbs, etc. These lists and manuals are now mostly on computerized media such as CD-ROMs or vendors' web sites. So, somewhere up in the attics of car dealerships there are probably two or three fiche readers being stored "just in case we need them". It was suggested that some might be had for the trouble of taking them away, others might want $50 to $100 for them. Also, maybe others saw the message I saw and they are all now found in good genealogy researchers' homes. good hunting -- Marshall Price pricem@uniserve.com http://www.users.uniserve.com/~pricem

Dear Senator Poy. Thank you for your message of support for Senator Milne's Bill S-12. It is greatly appreciated. I will get your position on the website updated as soon as possible. In the meantime I am posting your message and this response to a number of genealogy mail lists. This should slow down the number of messages your receive indicating you are 'undecided'. Thank you to everyone that responded to my posting seeking information about my Grandfather that was in the Vancouver Police Department. The only information that I have about his resigning from the police force is: Thomas Stanley Laycock (more commonly known as Stanley Laycock), was promoted to Inspector in the Vancouver Police Department. He was demoted and fought this demotion in the BC Supreme Court. The decision was upheld in the courts, so he decided to resign rather than take the demotion. I am hoping to find out the reason for the demotion. I would also like to find any court papers concerning this case. I am in Penticton, BC and do not know if I can access this information (if it is indeed available to me) from here. Thanks again for all the replies and very helpful tips! Jennifer
