Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Viola You will probably have better luck with "Hudson Bay Archives" for any records that early as BC was still HBC territory at that time. I have not heard of a "Cree Nation" in BC. There is a Web Site at http://www.civilisations.ca/membrs/fph/stones/groups/cree.htm this site has maps showing the the distribution of the various tribal and language groups. It seems the CREE were more likely to be from Alberta, Sakatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. It is quite probable that they were of Cree ancestry and having married a Trader/Trapper move with him to one of the Forts at Victoria, Yale, Hope etc: Regards David ______________ On Wed, 11 Oct 2000 07:59:26 -0500, Viola Seward wrote: > Mornin listers, can any one tell me how many and where the Cree lived in >BC? 3. Hi Karen, That was one spelling I did not check ( did not think of it). 21 records are a lot to search - not bad if time allows - and we know that the search will bring valid results.,but this weekend is pretty well taken up. Friends finally had their baby after 10 years ( lost one a year ago two days prior to birth) - we are all to excited by this to really think of anything else - we are going to see her this afternoon. I am going to attempt the lookups this morning - being in town allows me an easier bus ride - only one transfer - my leg still doesn't like the step up and down onto the bus so the fewer the better. Telephone Directory Canada 411: http://www.teldir.com/real/frame.asp?page=http://canada411.sympatico.ca There are 13 TEICHROB - surnames listed for B.C. - 36 Teichrob listed for All Canada. There are 65 TEICHROEB - surnames listed for BC - 306 Teichroeb listed for All Canada - 3 TEICHROBE in Prince George Stella At 10:03 AM 10/5/01 -0700, K&D Lawrence wrote: >Hi Stella - I have been watching the chat here. 2. David Fancy
    3. Hi Janet If they came in 1859 they would have been among the first settlers in the New Westminster area as the city was surveyed by The "Columbia Detachment, the Royal Engineers" commanded by Colonel Moody. The 'Columbia Detachment' Royal Engineers sailed from Gravesend in the vessel "Thames City" on 10 Oct 1858 and arrived at Esquimalt, Vancouver Island on April 12, 1859. They then traveled to the mainland in a steamer and landed near the site of present day City of New Westminster. They [R.E.] surveyed and founded the city between their arrival in 1859 and 1863 when the unit was disbanded. Colonel Moody and some of his officers and a few enlisted men returned to England but the majority appear to have taken their discharge here. You should be able to find some useful information at the New Westminster Archives and Museum at "Irving House" on Royal Ave [next door to St. Mary's Hospital] They have some photographs, files and historical notes on many early families. The New Westminster Public Library also has a collection of newspapers and early photos that might prove useful. As a member of the Clergy his arrival is sure to have been noted in the newspaper. The newspapers are on Microfilm, the library has an index to many families/events in these papers. 2. Blair Rice
    3. Hi Shirley, Giscome is located north/east of Prince George on the Willow River. In the 20's it was probably a logging/sawmill community. I looked in the Prince George phone book and found no Tichrob's listed in Giscome or Prince George. You might want to check with the IWA union office in Prince George to find who the local employers were at that time. They have some pretty good archives. They can be reached at 250 563-7771. 3. Hi Shirley, What is the nationality of John - knowing this might lead to the correct spelling of the surname. Do you know where John was born ? In Canada - or did he emigrate ? You Mention that he (John) came from Canada - To ? When? I searched the B.C. Govt Vital records - http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm for John Tchrob - Tichrob - Alice Hawkins - Hawkins - Prince George and Griscome. with 0 results - Perhaps others will have better luck than I in finding the information. If the marriage took place after 1925 - it would not yet be considered public record and would not be online. free to search. You would need to contact the Vital Stats and request a search and a copy of the Marriage Registration - the cost will be $50.00 +. The marriage certificate is just very basic information extracted from the Marriage Registration and not very valuable for genealogy research. ------------------------------------------------------ I did find a death for a Tichrob baby: If you are not in to much of a rush - I can take a look at the registration - to see who the parents were but possibly not until sometime next week. 1. [CAN-BC] Post 1901 Census -- website updated.
    2. Gordon A. Watts
    3. Greetings All. In excess of 150 files for the Post 1901 Census Project website have today been loaded on the server. New totals are shown for the MP and Senator Scoreboards Many correspondence logs for Senators and Members of Parliament have been updated. I continue to work on website files and before I get up to date there will probably be at least another 150 changes. I hope to update the sample letters shortly and after that will continue work on expanding the French language pages. Your help in sending us the letters you write, and in particular any responses you get from MPs and Senators is greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing responses to the many letter sent in recent days. It is important to keep the pressure on the politicians so they do not think we have forgotten the Census issue. Petitions are still important and since presenting the last batch to MP Murray Calder during my time in Ottawa, several more have come in. In excess of 22,000 signatures have been presented to the Senate and the House of Commons. Many more are needed. Keep them coming. With your help we will achieve our goal. The URL for the Post 1901 Census Project Website follows my signature. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted.

I have not done any research on them in Canada, because I do not know where to begin. They did not stay in Canada, but eventually returned to Italy...where can I begin to look? Copies are quite likely held in the Provincial Archive in Victoria. 1. [CAN-BC] Louis MORELL - Recommended for Bravery
    2. Dennice Goudie
    3. At some date after: April 11, 1937 -- Louis MORELL article refers to recommendation for medal recognizing his bravery during his actions which saved the lives of my Aunt and Mother. I would like to find any further information which shows that Louis MORELL actually was the recipient of said award. Hints or tips on how I might find out said information would be greatly appreciated. Both of the children mentioned in the copy of this article lived to adulthood (still living) and are great-grand-mothers whose descendants would also be pleased to know that Louis MORELL was officially recognized for his acts of bravery. Victoria Times article - clipping found in McFADDEN family Bible <quote> Recommended for Bravery Louis Morell Saved Two Children From Burning Home at Rocky Point For disregarding personal danger and rescuing two children from a burning wooden home, after he had previous put of the flaming clothing of its owner early on the morning of April 11 last, Louis Morell, of Rocky Point, will be recommended by the Province to the attention of the Royal Humane Society, for bravery. The Provincial Secretary's office was preparing the documents yesterday, supported by the affidavits of eye-witnesses, after the case had been drawn to the attention of the Government by Inspector Robert Owens, of the Provincial Police. Morell, living in a cottage twenty yards in rear of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown, at Rocky Point, heard an explosion at 6:40 a.m. on the day in question, and saw Mrs. Brown running towards him with her clothing in flames. He raced into the burning home, dragged a blanket from the kitchen, and smothered the flames on the unfortunate victim of a coal oil explosion. RE-ENTERED BUILDING The house was then well alight, Morell went into the burning kitchen and called to two children, Winnie Brown, of school age and also an infant. Winnie ran through the flames to Morell and safety. Morell tried to reach the bedroom where the infant lay, but had to go outside the house and break his way in through a back window. For a third time he entered the burning building, handing the baby to safety, and escaping himself. For these acts, preformed at great risk to himself, and saving the lives of two children, he will be officially recommended for an award of the society. Mrs. Brown died in the Jubilee Hospital twelve hours after receiving severe burns. Her husband, Henry Brown, was working at the time at Langford, and she had been alone with the children in the house when the oil took fire at the kitchen stove. <endquote>
