    3. Riccarda: Welcome to the B.C. list! Powell River is a town on the west coast of mainland British Columbia. It is about 142 kms north west of the City of Vancouver. The area where Powell River is found is also known as the Upper Sunshine Coast. A beautiful area which you might want to visit @ www.bigpacific.com If you want further info on where this is try "Southern British Columbia Maps" on www.google.com Not sure about what else is found on the B.C. Archives microfilm, I haven't viewed any yet. Perhaps another lister can help. Penny

    3. Hi Linda Saskatchewan is not a city nor is it in British Columbia, it is a Province in its own right. which abuts the eastern boundary of the Province of Alberta which is itself situated along the eastern boundary of British Columbia You will need to research it separately. The British Columbia Archives have indexed the Birth, Death and Marriages Registrations, see the site at http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm There are 14 'WALKLEY" records in the death registration index at http://www2.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/www2vsd There is one male and 4 female marriages in the index at http://www2.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/www2vsm Take a look at these and decide which are relevant to your family, once you have done so, write to the list again, there is usually someone who can look them up for you. 3. There are also quite a few Walkley's in www.familysearch.org in Cranbrook, plus other parts of Canada, maybe you are already familiar with this. Also there are still six living in Cranbrook, BC at present. Check out the phone book at http://www.infospace.com/_1_4PJLTI604F57FFM__info/redirs_all.htm?pgtarg=ppli Might be worth a few stamps to contact them also. - Karen

    3. Hi Linda - Check out our BC Archives at http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm there are 14 Walkley deaths, and 5 marriages, some in Cranbrook and others nearby. If any of them sound familiar, I am sure that someone can get you copies of the certificates. 1. [CAN-BC] Newspapers of Canada -- Alphabetically
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Newspapers across Canada will accept well-written, not over 200 words in length, articles of a timely subject like the release of Post-1901 Census Records. Here is one great site -- http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/canada.htm Click on the name of the newspaper, and somewhere you will find either a place to contact the paper or name of editor. The e-mail address of the paper will be available. We all have newspapers -- use them!!! Many papers prefer personal delivery of letters, others e-mail. All require complete name and address, plus telephone number so the editor may check to see if the letter is a hoax. Basically, one short three or four paragraph letter will do for every newspaper in Canada -- send each one individually, and only the name of the paper and editor has to be changed. I will assist anyone PRIVATELY -- proofreading!!!!! Your letter will be returned privately -- that is a promise! One paper to concentrate on is the Ottawa Hill Times, often referred to as the Bible of Parliament Hill! Please, let us see some ACTION -- if a Canada Census Committee member, sign your name as such. If a member of a genealogical society, be proud of your affiliation -- a letter may be signed by more than one person. Muriel M. 2. Bonnie Slade
    3. Hi, First of all I would like to thank all the people who so generously have assisted me in my quest for knowledge. The people on this listserve have been amazing and, like Imogen from England, I feel like my faith in human nature (especially at this difficult time) has been given a boost. I am researching my great grandparents, Charles Alexander Chatterson and Sarah McKnight who lived in Vancouver from 1923 until their deaths. They operated "Mary Jane Candy Company" in Vancouver. It is rumoured that this company was bought out by Laura Secord. I am also interested in my gg aunt Stella May Chatterson (d. Sept 1, 1942, age 84). Thanks to the lovely people on this listserve, I now know have the death registrations and the obituaries for Charles and Sarah. Stella died at Essondale after having been institutionalized for 8 years. She died on September 1, 1942. I requested her medical records and I was shocked to find listed on her visitor record a C.H. Chatterson. He was listed as her son. As far as I know, she didn't have any children nor did she ever marry. I was thinking that it might be a mistake since her brother's initials are C.A. but on one form both men are listed. The address for C.H. Chatterson in 1936 is given as "3047 Granville St. Vancouve! r.Bay 5350", the same as C. A. I was thinking that perhaps it was her nephew rather than her son but in Charles' obit, it only mentions one son, Walter James. I don't know if there would be an obit for Stella as she was buried in "Asyllum Cemetary" at Essondale. From her death certificate, it doesn't look like there was any family involved in her death as all of the information about her comes off of her committal papers and there is no "informant" listed. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might find out whether or not there was a son? Thanks, Bonnie

    1. [CAN-BC] Petitions MUST Be Completed by Person Sending Them
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Many have heard the following before -- but it needs to be repeated. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm There are THREE (3) pages to each petition. Page 1 does not need to be returned to either Gordon Watts or myself. Page 2 is very important -- MUST BE RETURNED -- it has the "prayer" (a Parliamentary term) plus places to give name of the one submitting the petition, where signatures were collected and address of submitter -- may be different. Page 3 does NOT replace Page 2. It may be included IF there are sufficient signatures. Today I received petitions for both House of Commons and Senate, stapled together, eight signatures, and only on Page 3. I do not like having to add Page 2 -- I feel it illegal. The House of Commons page will be forwarded to Gordon Watts, I will ask Senator Milne about the Senate one. Looking for Pages 2 (and 3) in the future, please. Muriel M. 3. Hello List My name is Hannah MILLER ( nee SPINKS ) I live in England and I am trying to find a cousin who`s last address in 1995 was Duncan B.C. I have been to Norfolk and found a tree she left there in 1995. Her 4 x Grandfather is my 6 x Grandfather. I have some more information for her. When I looked at her Tree she confirmed what I had and a little more e.g. were some of the family went to in the 1800`s her tree goes to 1736. But I have the tree to 1634 so I hope to give her what I have with your help. I have tried the Directory inquiries his morning before I started this letter. No luck. Her name was Suzanne Anderson maybe some one out there has had contact with her, or can supply her e-mail address I know this is a long shot but you never know. I would like to thank you for taking time to read this. I gave him your email address so you will be hearing from her I am sure. Best of luck with all of this and if for some reason she doesn't get in touch let me know and I will call her again. I have had so much help from others on this and other lists, it's nice to be able to return the favour by doing this for you. I have enjoyed it.
