    1. [CAN-BC] FTM 9.0 problem
    2. Pam Thomson
    3. If you use Family Tree Maker 9.0, you will want to read this message. Thanks, Stella, for sending it to me. Dear Family Tree Maker 9.0 Customer, We've set a high quality standard for ourselves over the eleven years we've been developing Family Tree Maker, and we do extensive testing before every release. As with all software programs, occasionally a problem is discovered after the program has been released. When this occurs, we evaluate the severity of the issue, and if the problem is serious, we fix the error and release an update. Unfortunately we have discovered a problem with version 9.0 that may occur when working with source citations. We are currently working on a solution that you will be able to download from our Web site. We will advise you as soon as it becomes available. For more information, please use your Web browser and navigate to: http://www.Genealogy.com/help. In the meantime, to ensure the safety of your family data, we suggest that you make a backup copy of your Family File (by choosing File-Backup Family File from within Family Tree Maker). There is no reason to stop using Family Tree Maker 9.0. However, until you download and install the update, we suggest you avoid the following: 1) Appending or merging files (by choosing File-Append/Merge Family File) 2) Using the Copy/Export command (by choosing File-Copy/Export Family File or File-Copy/Export Individuals) 3) Compacting files (by simultaneously pressing the Ctrl, Alt and C keys on your keyboard) 4) Running the Family File Checker with Fixer (by holding down the Ctrl, Alt, Shift keys and pressing the Left Arrow key on your keyboard) Please accept my apology for any inconvenience or difficulty this may cause. I assure you that we are working to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. For the most up-to-date information on this issue, visit http://www.Genealogy.com/help. 3. Hi Stella- This is a toll free number and it does work from here. The website says it is for accounts etc so it should also work for unsubscribing. It is only available Monday to Friday, so we must remember to unsubscribe during the week. 3. Good Morning Riccarda, There is a Digest Mode that can be subscribed to for this mailing list. Most Rootsweb Mailing lists will have subscriptions in Digest mode as well.as List Mode. To subscribe to the digest mode: CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA -D-request@rootsweb.com. See the following which has a clickable area that will allow subscribing and un subscribing. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA.html As far as duplicate messages go: 1.I think that "sometimes" things go awry - with the message delivery system. Today I have received triplicates of messages (all identical) including this one. There were very few messages that came through yesterday - and the days before. 2. I am " guilty of sometimes" sending messages to all. a. My machine is set up to send messages to the person posting.,which I do most of the time.when I feel that my response will be of no interest or help to others on the list. Because of this, when I Send To All ( the list) two messages do go out. I have found that some persons - may miss the response sent only to the list, for whatever reason -[ perhaps not reading all messages received] and some feel that there has been no answer to their quest. a personal e mail takes care of this. b. I post to the entire list - 1.When I think the information can be useful to others on the mailing list. 2.The information can be archived for reference . 3. I post to the list (Send to ALL)- when I am Volunteering to do a Lookup Request, since - there may be others who will also respond.and do the same lookups and copies. We are not always advised by the person making the request that there have been others who have offered help.. . Since copies do cost us at least a few cents each -(.40 cents) as well as transportation costs and time, it is a waste of resources to have more than one person working on the same project. Wishing all the very best. Cheers, Stella . 3. Yes, be careful about signing up with Ancestry.com! I believe you need a credit card to sign up, and they DO NOT notify you that your week is up, so unless you remember, they will charge you for the whole month, and will not pro-rate it. AND since I was out of the United States, they would not let me unsubscribe either online or through email. I had to call their toll free number, but in Italy, there is no such thing as toll free, or call next time I was in the states. I can call an AT&T operator, using their special access numbers, and put the toll free phone charge on my credit card, or AT&T calling card, but the charges from where I live, Montebello Vicentino, to Venice, (we are 45 minutes away) where the access number is located, are charged by the SECOND. Others on my Italian genealogy list have had problems unsubscribing, so read the fine print, and be careful. It is a wonderful service, but be wary...Ciao, Riccarda -----Original Message----- From: K&D Lawrence [mailto:karendon@bcinternet.net] Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2001 5:42 AM To: CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAN-BC] Fw: 7-day Census Images Trial Hi Listers- If you got this message in the last day or so, please check the 800 number they give you to unsubscribe, before signing up over the Internet. 3. The problem is that Rootsweb's strongly urges that lists be set up so that replies go to the sender and so that's the default- if you just reply, your message doesn't go to the list. If you click Reply All (or equivalent), it goes to the list AND the sender. You can always remove the senders address after you click Reply All. That's what I'll do with this one, so it will go to the list but not to Riccarda as well. 3. Good Morning All, I just visited the Ancestry web site - and found the following telephone # for customers calling from outside the U.S.A. Hopefully this number is toll free.it doesn't say. I would " Imagine" - [I have a great imagination] that someone else could help you to unsubscribe from the Ancestry site - but they would may need to have access to your password etc. I For our customers calling from outside the United States, please dial 801-705-7620. 1. [CAN-BC] Dreams CAN Come True -- With A Bit Of Work!!!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- As a family researcher, I am very familiar with census records, even Victualling Lists of different years -- these proved certain family members were still alive. Census records, beginning with 1901, have dates of birth -- which should be double-checked for the correct year. What amazed me was the following:- I went to the local LDS Centre and it was like going into a large grocery store -- census records of many years -- 1911, 1921, 1931 and others. The 1931 one was very important -- to me -- it proved I was alive! Yes, there I was listed, with parents, with date of birth October 22, 1924 -- two brothers were also listed, 1926 and 1928. This was great!!!! I was able to learn about all my former classmates in the one-room country school I attended -- yes, these did exist!! The copying of the 1931 census of the Port Mouton district did take a long time -- but worth every second!!!! DARN IT --- THEN I WOKE UP AND REALIZED IT WAS A DREAM We are still FIGHTING to obtain release of even 1911 -- it seems many have given up on us -- but believe me, Senator Lorna Milne has not!!! [Incidentally, you will not find her name on a 1931 census] This memo is a promise I made to several -- basically, "If I can do it, so can you". I am only using the skills I learned as a printer, started at age 16 at the Liverpool Advance, was switched to Cape Breton Post for censorship and intelligence (Mi'kmaq language) in 1942, married in 1945 after the war was over, moved to Brampton in 1953, met Lorna ??????? In Brampton I continued as a typesetter, proofreader, finally women's editor of the weekly paper. [I am also assisting many with spelling on their sites -- proofreaders never die!!] My next promise is to have my photo on my homepage WHEN Bill S-12 is passed in the Senate -- the Committee is using the fine-tooth comb technique so should have all the snarls out of various clauses when the Bill reaches the House of Commons. [Senator Milne will also change her photo -- as Gordon and I know her] All present-day researchers will only be able to go to 1901 UNLESS EVERY ONE OF US GETS OFF OUR RESPECTIVE BUTTS!!! Just imagine what YOUR family history would look like if YOU had to add the line "Continued in 2094" - with all history of 100 years unavailable. It was a nice dream -- but dreams CAN come true -- if YOU wish!!! Muriel M. 3. I don't understand why they need a credit card if they are free for seven days. They never used to need one, they just cut you off when your time was up. I agree, that they just hope you forget to unsubscribe. Could you get someone from another area to unsubscribe for you? It is possible the number only works in the US. - Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: Muriel M. 3. Hi Riccarda, If no one else has offered - I can take a look at the death registration for you. and either send you a photo copy - or e mail the information found - to you. Unfortunately I cannot help with an obituary ( I will search the Vancouver Papers - but the obit may not have been published in Vancouver papers). There are Volunteers at the following site - who take cemetery photo's. They also do Public Record lookups - but since I will be doing a few lookups - I will do those for you. http://www.raogk.org/bcolumbia.htm Prince George Public Library may be able to help with an obit. http://www.lib.pg.bc.ca/ With Information found on the Death Registration - we may be able to find further information for you.
