Sorry....that was Dan Rodie with the virus. And the subject was a reply to a message that I sent the list. I discovered this AM that I could right-click on his name (before opening the message) and I could see his return address. It had a _ before his name which means you can't do a return message to him asking if the attachment is OK. Clever, huh? Carole
If you receive a message from Bob Rodie and it has an attachment it is a virus....he didn't send it but his computer did. Don't blame him. Delete a message from him if it has an attachment.
Hi all - I wanted you all to know that effective immediately, my email address has changed to taylormmm@shaw.ca Thanks, Jennifer
I am new to the list. I have found relatives in Vernon and Kelowna. James Harvey died 1931 age 88 in Vernon. His wife Mary (Campbell) Harvey died 1925 age 78 in Kelowna. One son George Campbell Harvey died 1929 age 59 in Kelowna. George Harvey married Emma Hatton who died 1946 in Victoria. James and Mary were married in Peel County, Ontario. Marys parents lived there, for some reason they emmigrated to B.C. after George Campbell was born. I have the death registration numbers for all from the web. I would like to know if there would be any mention of them in a local paper to find out some history of the family. Any help would be appreciated. I would pay for a search. Judy
Hello Please note that if anyone wishes to email me on the above subject, my email address is changing to tarynjones15@shaw.ca. In the meantime, email me at tarynjones15@hotmail.com with Duncan Consolidate School in the subject line. Thanks! Taryn

Taryn I see there are a couple of Japanese in the photo consider sending a copy as a donation to the Japanese Canadian National Museum & Archives Society, 511 East Bradway, Vancouver, When the Japanese were moved during WWII many pictures were left behind so this may be the only opportunity for the ancestors of those folks to see a picture of their ancestor. Hello everyone. I don't know if anyone here might have more information on the family that I'm researching, but I like to post my interests every now and then, just to see if anyone has learned anything new. Anyway, here we go. My main area of research (actually mine and my cousin Judi's) is the MCNAIRN family from the parrish of Penninghame, Wigtownshire, Scotland. William McNairn (1704-1769) was the first Laird of The Knowe, a farmstead near Newton Stewart. One of his sons, John McNairn (1745-1814) was my 4xgreat Grandfather. John left Scotland for the United States in 1773, then moved to Canada in 1778. He was a United Empire Loyalist. His family stayed in Canada for awhile....my grandfather was born there. When my grandfather, Oral Charles McNairn married my grandmother, Beulah Kathleen Richardson, they moved to New Jersey where my mother was born. They moved to Ohio, and then I was born in Indiana. There are other McNairns from all over that my cousin (who is my 6th cousin) Judi and I are trying to make connections with--Scotland, England, all over Canada, The US, Australia, and Jamaica. Both of us believe that if we can document back far enough, we will find that we all have common ancestors, probably from the Wigtown area. Judi has a great website about the McNairns that we have researched and documented. If you have time, please take a look at it. If you think you might have further information that might be useful to us, please let me or Judi know....we would be eternally in your debt! Judi's website is: http://www.jamcnairn.com/mcnairn/index.htm We hope to hear from you! Thanks for taking the time to read this! Cheryl Grice, born Zetta McNairn and Judi McNairn
The Falls of the Spray of Pearls is at the head of the Burrard Inlet, Indian River, British Columbia. The only thing I know is the legend is about two Scottish immigrants, Norman and Pearl McNabb. Can anyone tell me if there is a website explaining the Legend of the Spray of Pearls? Thanks for any help, Debbie
Hello everyone Came across a school photo of my grandad aged 14. He was in Division 1 of Duncan Consolidated, and had all the rest of his classmates sign their names and some of their birthdates on the back. Greetings All. I copy below for your possible interest the minutes of the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the House Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs that deemed Bill C-312 non-votable. Of note regarding these minutes are the following: -- MP Michel Guimond was not present at the proceedings. In his place was MP Pierre Brien - Brien.P@parl.gc.ca . Neither of these gentlemen has responded to our questions relating to Census since March 1999. -- The meeting lasted 110 minutes in total during which 95 minutes were spent in normal procedural matters and taking testimony from nine Members of Parliament regarding thirteen Bills and Motions from the House of Commons, and one Bill referred from the Senate. Fifteen minutes were spent in determining the fate of those thirteen Bills and Motions. Not one of the thirteen considered was deemed votable. -- The government website from which these minutes are linked currently does not show the evidence given at this meeting. There is, however, a location for a link to the evidence given and it is expected that it will will be linked shortly. While evidence for other meetings is shown, deliberations on the fate of the Bills considered is done 'In Camera' and so the reasons for their decisions are unlikely to be known. -- There is some interesting reading at the start of evidence given at the meeting of 3 October 2001 which is linked from the website of the Sub-Committee. The URL for this website is http://www.parl.gc.ca/InfoCom/CommitteeMinute.asp?Language=E&Parliament= 8&Joint=0&CommitteeID=183 While this shows up as two links it is, in fact, one. Be sure that you enter the full length of it. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Greetings All. This afternoon I mailed another batch of Census Petitions for the House of Commons to MP Murray Calder. There were a total of 1502 signatures in this batch. To date we have sent a total of 13,237 signatures. The breakdown of the petitions is as follows: Province Previous Current Total =============================== BC 1944 524 2468 AB 5311 69 5380 SK 676 33 709 MB 261 22 283 ON 1769 528 2297 PQ 548 133 681 NB 392 109 501 NS 520 84 604 PE 99 0 99 NF 208 0 208 YT 7 0 7 NT 0 0 0 NUN 0 0 0 =============================== Totals 11735 1502 13237 I am pleased that numbers of signatures from Ontario and Quebec are starting to move up. A number of petitions have been received from different branches of the OGS and from different genealogy and historical associations in Quebec. However, as can be seen from the chart, signatures from some other areas are sadly lacking. It is important to continue sending letters and email to our elected officials seeking support for public access to Historic Census records. It is equally important, if not more so, to gather signatures on the petitions. We have no means of determining numbers of letters and email written, but when petitions are sent to us for forwarding to MP Murray Calder and Senator Milne, we are able to keep a running total of signatures. This is important for demonstrating the support for our efforts to regain access to the records. The Canada Census Committee does not have a monopoly on petitions, and we are aware of some of our petitions that have been sent directly to MPs and Senators. We would request of anyone doing so to please let us know how many signatures were sent, and to whom they were sent. We would prefer to have our petitions funneled through us. If you send any petitions to other MPs or Senators, obtain a committment from them in advance that they will, in fact, present them to their respective Houses. There is no rule that states that a member must present petitions that they receive. We do have that committment from MP Murray Calder and Senator Lorna Milne. I check Hansard regularly for debates of the House of Commons and the Senate. In the Senate I have seen where one petition was presented by a Senator other than Lorna Milne, and one petition presented by Senator Milne that was different than ours, and was sent directly to her. In this instance it was 305 signatures of Canadian Home Children also seeking access to census records. In the House of Commons I have never seen a petition presented by any MP other than Murray Calder, even though I am aware of a few that have been sent to other MPs. We have no idea what happened to those petitions. Keep collecting signatures on petitions, and keep writing your letters and email. We need them both. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Hello i thought that the lists were for genealogy topics at least that is what i have been told.
Greetings All. We have today been advised from the office of MP Murray Calder that his Bill C-312 has been deemed to be non-votable. As a result it will receive only one hour of debate in the House of Commons and will then be be dropped from the Order paper. This is hardly worthy of a Bill regarding an issue which has received in excess of 40,000 signatures seeking support for public access to Post 1901 Census Records. This news has been a great disappointment. We had hoped that C-312 would be considered votable and would at least receive the three hours debate alloted to votable Private Member Bills. Members of the sub-committee of the House Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs that made this decision were as follows: Carolyn Parrish Parrish.C@parl.gc.ca Michel Guimond Guimond.M@parl.gc.ca Jay Hill Hill.J@parl.gc.ca Bill Blaikie Blaikie.B@parl.gc.ca Garry Breitkreuz Breitkreuz.G@parl.gc.ca Marcel Proulx Proulx.M@parl.gc.ca Email addresses have been provided for those who might be inclined to send an email to the members of this sub-committee to express their disappointment with their decision. I for one will be sending such a message. I also received word today that the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology will be meeting 6 December 2001 for clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-12 - An Act to amend the Statistics Act and the National Archives of Canada Act (census records). Following the clause-by-clause consideration, S-12 will be returned to the Senate for Report stage. Gordon A.
