    3. Hello again Ann, I am just on my way out - having had to wait for the mail. I have all of the information needed to determine whether the Walter Scott and Alice Scott are the people you are searching for. Your web site is excellent - excellent detail. Just a thought: Perhaps, if you have not already. Post to a site in the U.K. - called TreeTops. http://www.cadvision.com/traces/treetops/index.htm They post your quest on T.V. ( No Fee) This is apparently seen throughout England and Ireland as well as the U.K. I have heard back from some people - that they have had results - and have found family connections through this source. We also had a wee bit of luck with that site. http://www.cadvision.com/traces/yourpast.html I will get back to you, hopefully with the information you are requesting. Cheers, Stella Good Morning Ann I am visiting the library today - and can take a look at these registrations for you. There is no need to order from Vital Stats - it is very easy for me to make the copies - without you having to spend the money. Can you give me more detail - to determine if these are the people you are researching. Just re read my message to you at the Alberta List - I see that I didn't mention that I could help with the regs. 3. I received the Badtrans virus from Marianne Stringer in reponse to my query on this mailing list , the virus came privately ,not through the list. I tried to email back to Ms. Stringer privately but the mail was returned . My computer was not infected, Norton Antivirus (which I keep updated ) caught it .I just wanted to tell her she has the virus in case she hasn't discovered it yet . The virus sends out to people in your mailbox and you can be totally unaware you have the virus. Linda Harper

    3. Greetings Researchers and Fellow Rootsweb Listowners: We all know that generally, the flow of pioneers was from Eastern to Western Canada. Many pioneers made it part way and settled in many communities along the route. With all the new members on these lists I thought it would be wise to re-mention The Northeastern Ontario Gravemarker Gallery Web Site. Please note that Nipissing District is 97% complete. Parry Sound District is 75% complete. Renfrew County is 25% complete. Sudbury District is in progress......! At the present time there are about 27,500 gravemarkers photographed and displayed on this free web site available to help you in your research. If you know of any other reserachers looking for ancestral data in Northeastern Ontario, please let them know about the site located at: * http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~murrayp * Good luck..........Murray Pletsch

    1. [CAN-BC] Post 1901 Census - Bills S-12 and C-312
    2. Gordon A. Watts
    3. Greetings All. I have recently been advised that the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology have postponed clause by clause deliberation on Senator Lorna Milne's Bill S-12 An Act to Amend the Access to Information and Statistics Act (census records). This deliberation, originally scheduled for 6 December 2001, will now be held 12 December 2001. Following this, Bill S-12 will be returned to the Senate for Report Stage and further discussion. We hope that the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology will recommend acceptance of S-12 without any major changes. Although MP Murray Calder's Bill C-312 has been deemed non-votable, along with every other Private Member Bill considered at the same time, it will receive up to one hour debate in the House of Commons before being dropped from the Order Paper. It is expected that this debate will take place on 11 December and will be broadcast on CPAC. There is a possibility, because a budget is expected to be brought down on that day, that debate on C-312 will be delayed. I will post a message regarding any delay as soon as I am informed regarding it. In this time of activity regarding S-12 and C-312, it is important to keep up our efforts to bring these to the attention of our MPs, Senators and Ministers. Keep sending your letters and email, and signing petitions. Both are important. Send your representatives a Christmas wish and ask for their support at the same time. While letters and email keep individual MPs and Senators keep them aware of our personal feelings, we have no way of tracking numbers sent. Numbers of signatures on petitions are a visible indication of support for our efforts that can be tracked and totalled. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 3. Hi Linda...and it adds a _ at the beginning of the return address, so it Can't go back to the sender...any email coming to you with a _ in the beginning of the return address is Badtrans...Unless of course it was there in the address previously...and the people it comes from are unaware that it is mass mailing itself to all in your inbox. I heard that if you put all of your inbox mail in another folder, it cannot do it's "thing"...ciao, Riccarda -----Original Message----- From: Linda Ray Harper [mailto:lindamray@shaw.ca] Sent: Monday, December 03, 2001 10:33 PM To: CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAN-BC] recieved virus from stringer@rc.bidcon.net I received the Badtrans virus from Marianne Stringer in reponse to my query on this mailing list , the virus came privately ,not through the list. 1. [CAN-BC] Virus
    2. Ralph K. Williamson
    3. I had one of the virus worms in the spring and it was a real pain to deal with. Some of these enable the person who developed it to steal your personal information such as bank account numbers and passwords etc. So it is something to deal with immediately. WWW.McAfee.com offers free virus checks and instructions for eliminating them. Also they offer one year of virus protection for about $26 purchased over the net. My protection is updated daily. It is much less expensive that purchasing updates which sometimes are outdated in days. Anyone sending a message to this list will receive a virus infected message back because it multiplies using the address on unopened e-mails, on any computer that is infected. If more than one person has the virus you will recieve virus tainted e-mail from each one. Good luck to all.

    2. Marlinna Stringer
    3. Hi to all, Yes, it was my computer that sent a virus to this list. I received it from a fellow genealogy researcher in Ontario. I do not know what to do to make it go away. If anyone does know, please email me privately. It is very annoying and is travelling to places and people that I have never heard of.

    1. [CAN-BC] Walter SCOTT 1867-19-----?
    2. Ann McClean
    3. Just re-airing my research interests: One WALTER SCOTT - bn 1867 nr Upwell, Cambridgeshire, UK Disappeared about 1905 after taking his fathers cattle to market in King's Lynn, Norfolk; he banked the sale money in his father's bank account and was never seen again! The family believe he went to Canada - but to date I haven't been able to find him. My father [aged 77] is getting desperate to know about the Grandfather he never knew, so I have put everything I know about Walter onto my website in the hope that someone may recognise the details: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cawthorn/Scott/scott.html [I have looked at the Dominion Land Grants and there are over 60 Walter SCOTTs listed - it's like a needle in a haystack!] Comments & suggestions as always gratefully received.
