Thanks to all that answered my request for finding land ownership. The land in question was on the corner, west side of Boundary Road and northside of Burke Street in Burnaby. My GM Minerva Jane Coburn bought is in the early 1900's, She remarried in 1914 to William Kirkham, they ran a dairy called Surprised Poultry Yard. Entered flowers and poultry in the Van. Exebition for years. The land is now subdivided, but the house remains as The Coburn Heritage House. Thanks to all Ken in Enderby
Hello Everyone, Have you checked with the local historical society and see what they know. They might have the info you are looking for or if the city of Burnaby has an archives they might have that info. If they don't you should be able to find the info you are looking for at LAND TITLES. You will need the legal description of the land and I don't know the fees charged. For the legal description I would check with city hall or equivalant or if you know a realtor I would ask them. With Land Titles I would go there in person hopefully at a time when it is not busy and explain carefully what you want. You will probably confuse them, that is why I say try to go when it is not busy. Hopefully I have not been confusing, any questions jsut ask Jacquie Nex ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Coburn" <kcoburn@telus.net> To: <CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 25, 2002 9:46 PM Subject: [CAN-BC] Land ownership > Hi to all: Is there some way I could find out when my G.M. purchased land in Burnaby, B.C. around the 1905 time. Hello, Listers! I was wondering if SKS would, please, send me the B.C. Directories for 1921, Langley--Milton, or, one after it. Thank you very much. Shannah
Aloha Listers: While looking for some information about the death of John Vivian Despigny Evans in Vancouver in 1988 I found a reference for Harold John Vivian R. Evans, CSM, who is buried in Veterans, Old Naval Section, Vancouver Island. The HMCS Naden was his ship. The reference for the cemetery is VGS 488. Questions: I cannot retrieve the reference, fortunately I copied the info. Does anyone have the cemetery transcription? Am I barking up the wrong tree in thinking that Harold might be John Vivian's son? Why isn't Harold listed on the CWGC site? What does CSM mean? HELP! Many thanks Audrey on Maui in the Hawaiian Isles

Greetings all. I have just received a message from Professor Chad Gaffield advising that he will be appearing on the CBC Radio show 'This Morning', along with Senator Lorna Milne, tomorrow morning, Tuesday 26 February. They will be talking about our favourite subject -- public access to Historic Census records in Canada. Chad's message indicated that he expected to be on during the first hour of the program. The 'This Morning' show is hosted by Shelagh Rogers and is heard weekdays at 9:06 AM (9:36 NT). It is my understanding that the show is on at the same time (9:06 AM) in each time zone. For those that wish to listen to the program over the internet, the website located at http://cbc.ca/audio.html has RealPlayer capabilities and a map having clickable links for the various cities that have CBC radio stations. Just click on the city of your choice to bring up your media player and listen to the station. I had originally been contacted to participate in this program as well, but as I have heard nothing from them recently it would appear that I am no longer being considered as a participant. Perhaps next time. I look forward to hearing this interview. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Hello Esther There is no way of searching the newspapers (that I know of) short of manually. If you haven't had anyone volunteer to look through the papers for you I should be able to get down to the library next week and check out what I can find. Let me know if someone is already going to do this as there is no point in 2 people doing it. I may be able to take a look through the City Directories for that time frame in the next couple of days, I need to go out to the Passport office in Surrey, hopefully will not spend another 3 1/2 hrs waiting again. As far as the 2250 Pine Street Address - I don't drive - but occasionally - my brother takes me to a movie in that area - across town from where I live. we could have a look at that time unless someone else offers. That whole area - had been undergoing great changes - with many new townhomes and condo's being built. There are still some of the older homes - and older apartment buildings standing. If I can borrow my son's camera - and the building is still standing - I could take a photo - no promises. Hi List - I would like some information for a friend - Allen Powell in Wales. Here is the wee story. During WW!!, Allen was sent to Canada for pilot training. He trained in Moose Jaw and then in Calgary. While in Calgary, he played Soccer for the base and I guess he was pretty good as they had a lot in the papers about him. My question is: Does anyone know if Alberta has a facility like BC where one could search the newspapers for these sports stories from 1942. Allen would like to show the clipping to his sons and I sure would like to help him out. We have already written to the Calgary Herald, but they said the search was too involved and would not attempt it unless Allen could give the specific dates. All Allen could remember was that the matches were played between July 15 and September 24 of 1942. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.
Hello Listers I am new here. An aunt who died in 1972 used to write on high days and holidays to a Canadian cousin, Emma Ion. I have only just discovered the correct spelling in an ancient notebook. This gives a couple of long gone address locations which appear to have been jotted down during WW2. One seems to refer to Emma in the old fashioned way as Mrs. Oliver Ion. At that time she was living in Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan. Later the address changed to 1421 E Hastings St, Vancouver and later still to 136 West Broadway, Vancouver. I don't know where this cousin fits in. She may be a CHANT, a STANTON or a HANSFORD or a line I am not expecting. My families come from Somerset and Dorset. Is anyone able to help please? I see there are still ION families in the Vancouver white pages. Thanks for your attention, John Chant Canvey Island, Essex, England
Hi John There are 20 plus listings for ION in BC, many of them in the Greater Vancouver Region, you can search at the following site. http://wp.superpages.ca/people.phtml?SRC=mybc&STYPE=WS There are also several ION's listed in the BC Archives B. D. and M. indices at http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm Nothing on Emma but you may find some other names you recognize Perhaps one of the list members who has access to City Directories may be able to find a listing for ION at one of the addresses Regards David On Sun, 24 Feb 2002 20:35:52 EST, JCHANTSS8@aol.com wrote: >Hello Listers >I am new here. Claudia Cole and Listers--hello! 1. I was wondering, if SKS had any info.--e-mail/website/SNAIL MAIL/ph/fax #'s with contacts, etc.--on the archives of the B.C. Miners Union from C. 1900-1932? My grfa. was not a union member--as far as I know as he was merely an insurance man. Perhaps he had to join the Union in order to sell, but, as I said, not to my knowledge. Any books? 2. And, to where would one go to find out if one had shares in mines and holdings of some kind? This was, also, my grfa. Again, I would like an archives with e-mail/website/SNAIL MAIL/ph/fax #'s with contacts, etc. Any books? I would appreciate some comments and opinions on this, please! :) Thank yo so much! Shannah

Most entries for the BCCFA are contributed from published cemetery transcripts. Some transcripts include burial records from office records that do not have a stone on the grave. If the record is there it is included. To date though, most transcriptions do not have this information because the society publishing the transcript cannot procure this data. Hope that helps a little, Lynda

Hi Rob, I think I found the family emigrating from Trondheim, Norway in March 13th, 1888 with the ship Hero. Johan Wickström, 33 years, from Sweden Johanna Wickström, wife, 21 years Marie Wickström, child (?), 17 years Hulda Wickström, child, 4 years Ida Wickström, child, 3 years You find the family on the following link: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/EMITROND&variabel=0&postnr=50634&fulle=true&spraak=n I don't know from where in Sweden they came, but since they emigrated from Trondheim they're probable from county of Jämtland or county of Västernorrland.
