Hello, I am new to this list. Does anyone have quick access to Directory for New Westminster and surrounding areas for 1944-1945? I want to check for a WALTER SCOTT SMITH who died in July 1945 in New Westminster. Haven't got the death registration yet but just thought if someone out there had that year's directory you could confirm an address? Thanks April

I only know of the Salt Spring archives site, and it is a fairly new one. I was at the SSI archives a couple times, but only was researching my own family, so I don't know what is there. Best to email them with your questions and see what they say. The manager is away at the moment, but should be back soon.
>
As far as the other gulf islands go, I do recall seeing a site for one of them, but not sure which. http://communities.msn.ca/MissingPersonsPage _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
Hello , I Just received documents on my Grandmother from her Native files in the Seattle Archives .., Long story short, she contracted the disease T.B. In 1941 , and the " Children Aid Society " stepped in and took my mom and her 4 sisters via a Court Order .... Ok, at the time the Indian Agency of Oregon sent check's of money to this Children Aid society for the care of my mother ans sisters . ? # 1) Why would an American Indian Agency send money for my mom and sisters ? ? # 2 ) None of it was every used PROPERLY for the care of my mom and sisters . After the TB. Was gone she tried getting mom and sisters back but was not a loud too ? If anyone has researched their family to do with this " Childrens Aid " please inlitghten me if you can on how they worked ?? Thank You , Diane in Willy's P

Thanks, Bill and Joan. Although I've come across many of these in general searches of an area, amazingly, I don't think I've ever run into the need to actually get hold of a particular one. When I first asked about them, years ago, the staff said there was no way to do anything about it -- just wait. (and I always ask my questions of more than one staff person, just in case someone is not thoroughly informed) So I'm very glad you've let us know it's changed -- probably long ago! No doubt the time will come when I do need a Not Filmed record. This emphasizes the need to keep checking on changes in availability. One of the best things about this email list is getting tips on newly available resources. Like David Fancy and others mentioning the Bowell funeral company database for New Westminster just yesterday. Joan McI C. and Sharon are currently working on a database for a northern BC city's funeral records, because the original record book is only available by going to BC Archives -- pretty tough to access for northerners! Don't know yet if the genealogy society that owns the rights to the database will be putting it online. There must be many other groups around the province who are also thinking about making their local records more accessible. Hello again Stella I forgot to mention that there is no obit for my grandfather or so I was told by someone in B.C. about 2 years ago. I was informed when he died that he was pennyless so he probably was buried by the town or county. Also, I ended up with letters that were sent by some friends of his after he passed away. He does not have a headstone & I hope to put one up but cost is so high but maybe the rest of my relatives might help. Thanks again for your support! Fred W. Rush

Lydia, As for your "wrong side of the tracks", why not go to your lib. and ask for a book called, "Binbrook". It is a green hardcover book and you can look up your suname there. Secondly, ask for someone on this List have they have the museum website/e-mail and ask them there. Who knows? They may be able to help you out there! Good luck! :) Shannah
