    1. Post 1901 Census - time to send petitions
    2. Gordon A. Watts
    3. Greetings All For those who have been holding onto Post 1901 Census petitions, hoping to collect one or two more signatures, it is perhaps time to think about sending them in to us. Particularly those for the Senate and Non-Resident petitions. Petitions for the House of Commons can wait a few more days but they should be forwarded to us shortly as well. We hope that soon no more petitions will be needed. The next sitting of the Senate will be Monday 7 March 2005. Bill S-18 does not appear on the Order Paper for that day but we think it likely that the Senate Committee will Report it back to the Senate then. Presentation of Reports from Standing or Special Committees is the third item on the Daily Routine of Business. Debate on Third Reading of S-18 will hopefully begin Tuesday 8 March 2005. With a little luck it could complete Third Reading and Referral to the House of Commons in one sitting (we hope). Any communications with your Parliamentary representatives at this time should stress that Bill S-18 has the support of the Canada Census Committee, the Canadian Historical Association, and the Association of Canadian Archivists. Stress also that we wish to see Bill S-18 proceed through the House of Commons as quickly as possible in order that it can be completed and receive Royal Assent before Parliament recesses for the summer. As always, be polite and respectful in your communications. With a little luck, many of us will spend our summer researching the 1911 Census Records instead of still fighting to have them released. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 2. Claudia Cole
    3. Judy: Yes, it's the registration, and should contain bride's and groom's parents' names, birthplaces etc., but why spend twenty dollars when you can get it for nearly nothing? In fact, I can pick that up for you on Monday, just as a volunteer. Can't do a bunch of them, but getting one registration once in a while is no problem. The thing is, I hate to see people spending ridiculous amounts of money for documents that they can get several other ways for much less. Depending on your needs you could also have... Ordered the microfilm by the GSU number, at your nearest LDS Family History Center at much lower cost. Borrowed the microfilm by interlibrary loan at your local library and copied it yourself for maybe 25 cents. Used one of the document retrieval services...lots of people here have paid five dollars or less that way. Contacted the Victoria Genealogy Society and got one for ten dollars (money that advances genealogy) Hired a researcher for an hour and got about TEN different documents for less than cost of two digital images. Asked a volunteer on RAGK website...(Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) to get it for just their costs. Asked for a volunteer on this list to get it for you when they have the time, for cost of postage & photocopying. I'm at the Archives for my work anyway, and it will take me three minutes to get that copy, and another five to mail it to you. As you can imagine, I strongly disapprove of the company that charges such a high price for things that are available almost free. And I did not like the quality of the digital images I have seen provided. Just send me your mailing address, and if you aren't sure this is the correct marriage record, but know what the bride's parents' names SHOULD be, let me know that too. 3. Hi Judy, I believe it would be the actual Marriage Registration you would get by buying the Digitil Image on-line. BUT there is no need to spend that much money to get the Marriage Registration which will hold the names of both the Bride and Grooms parents. Go to RAOGK at : http://www.raogk.org/bcolumbia.htm and find a volunteer to get it for you for the cost of photo-copying. Failing that go to Don Crawfords site at: http://members.shaw.ca/copies/ and have Mr. Crawford get it for you for $4.00 CDN. I have no interest in Mr. Crawfords business except as a happy customer. If you do decide to go this route, e-mail Don with the Vital Index details as you gave below and then put your cheque in the mail, the turn around time is much faster. Hope this answers your question and good luck in your research. Cheers, Bridget in B.C. 3. Hi Judy, My experience - some time ago - at ordering the information available digitally - is that you receive the registration page rather than the certificate. In B. C. at least there is a definite difference between the registration and certificate. I also have a certificate. The registration which is what is available on line provides the names of parents, places of birth, witnesses and all the good stuff we look for. The certificate is virtually useless to our purposes. There are a couple of ways though to get it without paying the price asked for the digital copies. One is to contact Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness or RAOGK and get if for the price of copying and postage or order from www.bccopies.ca All instructions for that very simple and reliable process are on line at that site. As others have said, I have no connection to the site or person running it and the service other than as a very very satisfied customer. Hope this helps. Eleanor, B. 3. I've never purchased the digital marriage certificates - recalling that my own marriage certificate contained only the names of the witnesses, the priest who officiated, location, date. 3. Greetings All. FYI. I have today posted to the Post 1901 Census Project website, at the URL following my signature, an extract of the unrevised transcript of the Senate Committee hearing of Bill S-18 - An Act to amend the Statistics Act. The Committee considered and referred Bill S-18 back to the Senate without amendment 24 February 2005. The earliest date that debate on Third Reading of this Bill can be started is Tuesday 8 March 2005. It is hoped that Third Reading and referral to the House of Commons can be accomplished in a single sitting of the Senate. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 3. Hi Audrey, I know that you did search the Cemetery in New Westminster. Did you check with the Cemetery Office.they should have information of all burials in that particular cemetery. If you believe that Mary Alice HODGE [nee Taylor] perhaps Marie Hodge passed away in Saskatchewan. Have you contacted the Govt. of Saskatchewan - Vital Statistics Dept. I believe they search a number of years either side of a given year. The Death Registration will show the name of the Cemetery where a burial took place. The Death Registration will also show the name of the Funeral Home -in Saskatchewan -that handled the arrangements for registering the death - and the transfer of the body to British Columbia, the Vancouver/New Wesminster area. There may also be information about the Funeral Home or Cemetery that handled the care in B.C. Are you certain that she was transferred to B.C. or perhaps buried/cremated in Sask.? Knowing that errors can occur . Since Mary [Marie] Alice HODGE - was living with her daughter - Perhaps she was buried /cremated? under the CREE surname? I know you have searched under the HODGE - have you searched HODGES. *Searching the B.C. Cemetery Finding Aid: http://www.islandnet.com/bccfa/homepage.html Finds a Mary A. HODGE - buried at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in New Wesminster B.C. - I believe that you did check that one out - a few years back. There is no Mary A. / Mary Alice HODGE - listed at the Govt of B.C. Vital Events Index Deaths 1872 - 1984. http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-CAB744/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths So I assume that this was a death outside the Province of British Columbia. -perhaps checking this one out again would be helpful. Checking the OBITUARIES - for the time frame mentioned - would be quite a task. Have you checked in Saskatchewan - Perhaps an obituary was also published in Regina Saskatchewan - The Public Library - may have newspapers in their collection - perhaps have an index of obituaries. I believe New Westminster Public Library New Westminster Public Library - Reference Dept: http://www.nwheritage.org/heritagesite/history/content/cemetery.htm has some Obituaries indexed -[not online] *Not all cemeteries have a database online - would certainly be helpful. RAOGK http://www.raogk.org/bcolumbia.htm http://www.raogk.org/saskatchewan.htm http://www.raogk.org/alberta.htm Wishing You much luck with your search Cheers, Stella At 09:25 AM 2/25/2005, Audrey Bowne wrote: >I am looking for info on my grandmother > >Mary Alice Hodge (maiden name Taylor) 1st name could be Marie >b 1890 Hamilton Scotland >m 1913 Innisfail Alberta Canada >d between 1948 and 1952 (should be closer to 1950) I think she died at 60 >years old >she died in Regina SK and was living with her daughter Gertrude Mary Cree >how do I get a bodies in transit info or a death certificate >She may be buried in a New Westminister.Cemetery >I went to the graveyard and did not find her grave but, as you go in alot >of land to the right was covered up with grass and maybe alot of graves >are under the grass >Who has the database ? >Fraiser Cemetery is accross the street >I would like to find the newspaper obit and death certificate >Her husband Charles Frederick Hodge died in the 1st WW 1917 and she never >remarried >also looking for any HODGE families now living in the Innisfail Alberta area >thanks >Audrey Bowne >Seattle >[email protected] > > > > >--------------------------------- >Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo! 3. Hi Bob You can purchase the death certificate on-line, using credit card cost about £9, the Canadian Certificate gives much more than the UK ones, including how long they have been in Canada, where they are buried, funeral directors etc. Well worth purchasing, you get the image within 24 hours, however some kind person on the list may look it up for you.
