    2. M. Diane Rogers
    3. Hi, everyone, As you may know, Ancestry-Rootsweb has announced that all Rootsweb lists will be closed as of 1 March 2020. The Archives will be saved and available for viewing only. I have set up a new list - CANADA-WOMEN-HISTORY - at groups.io for anyone interested in the genealogy and history of women anywhere in Canada at any time. Information on events, activities, museum and archival collections, etc. if closely related to women's history in Canada is welcome. This list replaces both the Rootsweb Can-Hist-Women and the Can-BC-Hist Women lists, now discontinued. [ https://groups.io/g/CANADA-WOMEN-HISTORY | https://groups.io/g/CANADA-WOMEN-HISTORY ] You will receive an invitation to join the list later today. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Many Rootsweb lists have moved to groups.io already. Diane M. Diane Rogers Rootsweb Can-BC-Hist-Women and Can-Hist-Women administrator

    1. Year of the War Bride in BC
    2. Annette Fulford
    3. The BC Government reportedly announced last week that they proclaimed 2006 "Year of the War Bride" (# 52) http://www.legis.gov.bc.ca/38th2nd/orders/o060405p2.html . I have yet to see a press release on it, though. This article was in today's paper in both Kelowna and Penticton. Is it in any other papers in BC? Valley war brides look back By Scott Trudeau Sunday, April 9, 2006, 12:01 AM Sixty years ago, a boatload of young brides from overseas landed at Pier 21 in Halifax to begin new lives in Canada following the Second World War. The arrival on Feb. 9, 1946, of the Mauretania II, with 943 servicemen’s brides on board, marked the beginning of an immigration wave that brought more than 45,000 war brides and children to Canada in one year. One of those brides was Doreen Stephenson, who was born in Hereford, England, and is now an 81-year-old Penticton resident. She met her husband, David, at a Birmingham skating rink in December 1944. 1. A question
    2. Theresa Kishkan
    3. I've just subscribed to this list and look forward to the postings. I have a question right away. I'm a writer and am currently working on a novel set partly in Victoria in the years during and just after WW1. One of the characters is a pacifist and is interested in the suffrage movement. She subscribes to Jus Suffragii for instance. I'd like to know more about these movements -- pacifism and suffragism -- in Victoria during this period. Can someone direct me to good sources? I live on the Sunshine Coast and have access to interlibrary loan services but would like to know what to order! Thanks in advance.
