    1. Alberta Obits - update

    3. Dear lists: I have good news and I have bad news. Bad news first: I have had to put the AB OBITS website on hold until after the holidays; my workplace got overwhelmed and (lucky?) me got over-time (but then so did the boss). I am still having problems with the EDMONTON SUN, I cannot access their online obituaries. Due to my physical limitations and work commitments, I use the online obituaries for most of the newspapers --except for THE FORT RECORD (Fort Saskatchewan) and the occasional EDMONTON SUN issues left behind at work. Good news now: An impressive collection obits from fifty-six (56) Alberta newspapers has been amassed, although all transcripts are limited at this time as this project was undertaken only a few weeks to a month ago. Some dates/years are missing. I am trying to make listings of the obits that are in the collections which will be broken down by newspaper title and year. I will be transferring the obits onto CDs over the holidays to free up harddrive space -- my missus recently reported (in her most business-like voice) that our computer is getting sluggish because there are too many dead people in it! :) A few volunteers have agreed to help in this project: Marion Jardine (LETHBRIDGE HERALD) and Walter Amos (Calgary). They have been copying the obits and sending them on to me. "Every little obit helps," if I may make use of the tag line from the Ontario obits site of Janet Jones, who has been my mentor in this challenging endeavour. If anyone can assist, in any way, your help would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays to All respectfully Kale Liam HOBBES Ft Saskatchewan, AB
