Cousins, Genealogy using DNA just took a giant step forward. That is the FamilyTreeDNA(FTDNA) Family Finder. You submit the usual scrapings from inside your cheek and FTDNA takes something like 70,000 samples from the other 23 chromosomes. With the first match that they told me about they said that this person was either a first or second cousin to me. Turned out to be a female who was my first cousin once removed (she and my father were first cousins). I had quite a few matches at the second to third cousin level. Only a few of my matches were Campbells. This is because they are not following just the male or female line as in the Y-DNA or the mitochondrical DNA. I have great hopes for making significant progress in my genealogy research using this new tool. It isn't cheap at $289 but I believe that it will pay off greatly as more people have this test and we work to find common ancestors. If you are serious about your genealogy research and have been butting your head against a brick wall as I have for over 30 years I would encourage you to look into this. http://www.familytreedna.com Jim Campbell - G-G-Grandson of John D. Campbell (1812-1890)
I did the dna test at ancestry.com. They have one that test all the genes and the ones that do the straight male or female lines. I did the one that does all the genes (it was cheaper) and came up 96% British Isles and 4% unknown. My Grandmother was Ella Campbell Burnett born 1876 Winn parish Louisiana. Her Dad was William Hugh (Huey) Campbell born 1839 Jackson parish, Louisiana.Kathy *** ~~~ Support Our Troops!!! ~~~*** & *** ~~~ Honor our Wounded!!! ~~~ *** > Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2012 16:34:07 -0400 > From: jim@w4bqp.net > To: CAMPBELL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Campbell] FamilyTreeDNA Family Finder > > Cousins, > > Genealogy using DNA just took a giant step forward.
