    2. CUZ, Those were the Hardships that OUR acestors endured that so Mant Researchers Do not spend any time on. I realy do not beleve that many of our LIVEIG Cousins Have ay IDEA OR CONCERN About the Hardships of OUR ANCEStORS. It is an unquestion FACK that Mant of our Ancestors DID FOR A FACT Arive in TAPPAHANNOCK Virginia abord Prison Ships, BUT there ae Cousins that believe that IF THEY can Denie that often enough that the FACT WILL GO AwAY. NO Cousins the REAL Facts & Hardships of our Ancestors will not disapear because of OUR WISHES. A bout records of OUR ANCESTORS, <??>NO Doubt, the first Legal document that those old people put any effort into ws their LAST WILL & TESTAMENT, NOW Be honnest, HOW often do we find the Will of an ANCESTOR': that Goes About giveing the Family AL of PA's Belongings Down to GRAND PA's SIGHNING That statesLIKE SO: George W, <HIs x mark> Campbell. THAT HIS X MARK: Ment that Grand PA could not read nor Write, so now just where does the IDEA that There must be a record Come from <???> I honest believe that the IDEA of the Children Giveing information Started in 1850 when the Names of the Children started to be reqqures in the US Census, EXAMPLE< NOTE he Nick names FOUNT in The Earley CenSUS, IT IS A fact that the census enumaraters COULD NOT write But I,LL bet Many times the CENSUS Enumarater was writeing what some kid was telling them. CUZ AT In a message dated 5/24/2013 1:15:14 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, treerose90@aim.com writes: That is an awful and deadly order that the Campbell's back then had to carry out. And it all really wasn't all their fault because the man who gave the order had it in for others. -----Original Message----- From: Atpowelljr <Atpowelljr@aol.com> To: campbell_kids <campbell_kids@yahoogroups.com> Cc: campbell <campbell@rootsweb.com>; Danirose2 <Danirose2@netscape.com>; glodawn552002 <glodawn552002@yahoo.com>; stevencampbell112 <stevencampbell112@yahoo.com>; LCAMPBELL <LCAMPBELL@gw.uscs.edu>; bharris1932 <bharris1932@comcast.net>; martinlilly20 <martinlilly20@yahoo.com> Sent: Thu, May 23, 2013 10:51 pm Subject: [campbell_kids] Check out Scottish History - Summary Index _Scottish History - Summary Index_ (http://www.scottish-history.com/glencoe.shtml) PLEASE LEFT CLICK. 2. AT, You state that it is a fact that early enumerators of the census could not write. Where did you come across that fact? I find it very hard to believe that they could not read or write. Everything I have read leads me to believe that they indeed could read and write, if not how do we have anything intelligent from that era. Even today when reading one might question whether a person can actually write!! Just asking. Sylvia

    2. Sylvia - I, also, believe the early enumerators could read and write. They would be useless as enumerators otherwise, especially at a time when many of the population could NOT read and write. I read that the early Scottish enumerators were often the local schoolteachers or clergy, since they could read and write.
