Here's something I use quite frequently that's a big help. Simply click on a certain year, and a county map for that year appears. It's great for genealogy research: http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/va_maps/va_cf.htm
These maps are great except they don't show the boundaries allowed in the early years of our country. I have put some copies of old maps from early history books online at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcampbel/va2/index.htm You can see where VA and other states were "Sea to Sea" at one time..
