    2. According to the records abstracted in THE HISTORY OF ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA by Morton, William M. Campbell was a son of Samuel L. Campbell and Sarah Alexander. Their four sons graduated fromWashington College and all went West and all became eminent. Samuel L.Campbell was born between Brownsburg and Fairfield (in Rockbridge County) in 1766 and died at his country home, Rock Castle, in 1840. He was a graduate of Liberty Hall Academy (later to be known as Washington College) in 1788 and studied medicine at Philadelphia. He is considered the first resident physician of Rockbridge. My research does not show any connection between this Campbell family and the Amherst families. 3. Dear Shirley, Thank you so much for shareing this information. What a lovely Campbell family this was, even if they are not related to my Campbell family. I hope that this info you give will help some descendants of this family line to make some connections in the Western States. I certainly appreciate all your kind and generous help.
