If anyone is looking for Campbell's in North Carolina, a good place to start would be in Cumberland County. I've been researching my line that settled there in the 1700's for a little while. A good place that I've found was the NC Archives and the local libraries, they have a good source of material to be found. That is not to say that your people may not be located in other locations. Most of the Scottish people came into the Cumberland County area straight from Scotland, while a lot of the people located in the western areas of North Carolina emigrated down from northern states and settled in the area. I think that Ferquhard Campbell had a son named James that would have been born in that time frame, but I would need to go back and check my information to see exactly when he was born. I haven't been able to find any relations to the Campbell's in VA. yet, that's not to say there wasn't any. From the information that I've been able to find, most of the people that left the area went south and then west. Through Florida, Alabama.
