    3. Does any one have a suggestion of how to connect James Campbell Sr born about 1750 and married Mary Smith, daughter of Ambrose Smith and Elizabeth Birchfield, about 1772 who lived an raised his family on Painter Mountain in Nelson County until about 1818, to any other Amherst/Nelson County Campbell?. James and Mary had 5 children; James Jr born 1775 that married Judith Fitzgerald William born 1778 that married Elizabeth Cash Elizabeth born in 1774 but never married Catherine born 1778 married William Ramsey Susannah born 1779 married Joel Ramsey This family, with exception to daughter Catherine and William Ramsey, moved to Madison County Alabama during the early part of 1800. William and Catherine Ramsey remained in Nelson County and raised their family in the Montebello - Painter Mountain - Irish Creek area. James Jr returned from Alabama to Nelson County in 1821 and married Judith Fitzgerald in 1823. No doubt this James Campbell is related to one of the earlier Campbell's of Amherst County - Lawrence, George #1, George #2, Henry, or Neil??? I have been digging for 15 years and can not find the appropriate rock to turn over. Any suggestion or help will be appreciated. Thanks Bucky Harris, Staunton

    3. If someone will post all those CAmpbells that we kjnow in Nelson Co., Va. and the time freame, perhaps we could come up with a working sheet to find leads and to do different researches. I am sorry but am not able to do anything at this time. But it would benafit a great deal of different lines if we could get this working sheet comiled and posted. Could some of you work off this site together and see just what may be done. I've just gotten out of hospital once again etc. I'm very interested in the Henry that you mentioned. down but not out. 2. I am very interestedin the marriageof James W. Campbell to Judith Fitzgerald. Do you know who proved surety for the marriage? Did they marry in Nelson County? My James W. Campbell married Jane Massie in Nelson County, VA in 1830 with a "J. Fitzgerald" as surety and I believe this was his second marriage. I have always suspected the Fitzgerald person to be connected to James somehow. James was the father of my ancestor Alfred H. Campbell, but I have never been able to identify Alfred's (b. ca 1827) mother. Do you know the parents of Judith Fitzgerald?
