Dear Marge, This would be Chloe Swindler, d/o John Swindler the minister in Madison Co VA, and his wife Chloe. Chloe Swindler married Elias Campbell March 10, 1796. I think this Swindler line was ENGLISH ethnicly, whereas my own Swindle family was GERMAN, from having intermarried with the Fort Germanna community. I am a descendant of the SWINDLE family who is of Fort Germanna community (Germans who settled in 1714, 1717 and onward, with Gov. Spottswood). Fort Germanna community is found in Orange Co VA, Culpeper Co VA, Madison Co VA. Many of these folks later went to NC and thence to Boone Co KY. The Hebron Lutheran Church is still existing, it has the records, all in German. These German families tended to marry among themselves, but occasionally 'out-siders' would inter-marry. Swindler and Swindle are 2 different families, but happened to be in the same area in VA, at the same time. My family is not connected to Chloe Swindler. What makes matters worse, is the 2 families were mis-spelled by clerks, so I have some records for my relatives which are mistakenly spelled as SWINDLER. The Elizabeth YOWELL who married Elias Campbell in Madison Co VA is a Fort Germanna name. Yowell is a very prominate and well researched Germanna name. www.germanna.org GERMANNA_COLONIES-L@rootsweb.com My question would be: Is this the same Elias Campbell? Did he married Chloe Swindler, and also marry Elizabeth Yowell? Both of these marriages are in Madison Co VA, and both involved the same name, so I am wondering if this is the same man in both cases? I am not related to these people, but it seems confusing. I have never researched the Elias Campbell/Chloe Swindler line .. Only have copies of what others sent to me. What I have does not compute to be same person as Ellis Campbell..as I think most of the children listed are accounted for.
