    3. Ok.. I am going to post this info again. Just wondering if anyone can connect to any of the names in the Application to the DAR submitted by Gladys Requa FREY in 1958. National DAR App # 461561 Eagle Rock chapter in Montelair? NJ Mrs. Gladys Requa Frey, wife of George White Frey, resided in Verona NJ, and was a descendant of: Ellis Campbell, the undersigned have investigated and approved the applicant and her application. Ancestor's Services: Ellis Campbell was selected by General Washington while the American Army was in the Jerseys, on accounto f his superior horsemanship to be one of his express-riders, and in tha capacity he served six months, making many hairbreadth escapes through the lines of the British, which he was enabled to do from his great knowledge of the highways and byways of the State. He also participated in the Battle of Monmouth as aSergeant in Captain Mathew Freeman's Company, First Middlesex Regiment of NJ. Although not wounded himself, his comrades were shot down all around him. (Extract from prodceedings at a family gathering of Campbell, in NY, Feb 4, 1852, at which Ellis Campbell's widow was present.) The Pension Dep't gives the length of his service as two years; and that he enlisted in 1776 in above Regiment and Company. The said Ellis Campbell is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence while acting in the capacity of Sergeant with Col. Sheldon's Regiment, and Capt. Matthew Freman's Company, during part of the war. Give references by volume and page to the documentary or other authorities for- Military record: where reference is made to unpublished or inaccessible records of service, tha applicant must file the official copy. Give, if possible, the following data: My Revolutionary ancestor was maried to Nancy Clawson at Metuchen NJ 31 Dec 1775 (1781 crossed out) NOTE: Marge Campbell has Ellis R Campbell's Rev War Pension file. The way the birth of the children are listed has caused the different years for the marriage. Does any of this look familiar to anyone? What happened to Cornelius, Alexander, Freeman and Joel? I think the other sons stayed in NJ and raised family there. There was a Henry Freeman & Joel Campbell who came to CA during the gold rush.. Were they from this line? Marge Campbell
