    3. AT and Bonnie; There is only one "Raintree" family in the state of Virginia that I have ever found and they live near Big Island in Bedford County. They moved there from Maine several years ago. I talked with the Big Island family 5 or 6 years ago and they state they are not related to any native Americans. 3. Buck & others, Buck, I am sure you will remember several years ago when we were deep into the Ramsey research, we found some old information that 2 of the daughters of William & Catherine Ramsey were Indians named Raintree who changed their name to Ramsey. No one was ever able to explain why the other 7 children of William were not Indians named Raintree as well. Anyway, with marriage records, census records and other legal records I believe that we disproved that myth, at least to my satisfaction. 3. Carol; How well do I remember!! I even seen this reference on a family tree one time. Wonder if one of the largest clans in Nelson county, if not the largest, know that their maternal heritage was considered to be an Indian at one time? I have been satisfied for years that it was a myth.
