I haven't checked a map recently. How far are the Piney and Rockfish from each other? Are they both in modern-day Nelson Co.? If his son was born in the county that year, and the Rockfish River is in present-day Nelson Co., it must have been our George who bought the land. Steve Lynden Harris <bharris@ntelos.net> wrote: Steve; Yes, a George Campbell did buy land in 1764 from a John Robertson (Deed Book A page 183) but the location was on the Rockfish River. Figured this to be some other George Campbell. The documents from 69-71 were for land in the Piney River area. The Rockfish flows down the Rockfish Valley and flows into the James on the south East side of Nelson County. George and Cathy lived on the upper North branch of Piney and on the south west side of Nelson County at the base of Main Top or Priest Mountain. From the Piney area or Lowesville today could be anywhere from 10 to 20 miles apart from the Rockfish. If George and Caty were on the Rockfish or anywhere in the Amherst/Nelson area prior to 1761, they were in Albemarle County.
