    1. Re: [CAMPBELL] George Campbell, before 1740

    3. Dear Campbell researchers, My ancestor George Campbell is thought to be born about 1720, and we know that he died in 1791 in Amherst Co VA. I am NOT sure that we know positively who his FIRST born child was but I 'guess' that is was John Campbell b. 1750, that is not proven, I am guessing on my own. That would make George Campbell about 30 years old when he started haveing kids, give or take a few years. If George came as a young man from abroad, then he might have arrived in 1740 time frame, up to 1749 approximately. He could have arrived with a wife, but he could have arrived as a single fella. Maybe he was born in America, maybe his father was the immigrant? By 1720 he could have been second or even third generation born in America, I do now know who was the FIRST immigrant named Campbell to the shores of America, maybe at Plymouth Rock, or Jamestown, or Manhattan. I just don't know the name of the first man named Campbell, maybe someone does know. If we use the theory that George Campbell came as a young single guy, then got married, bought land, had kids, then I would 'guess' he might have been the one in the records listed below as: 1. George Campbell arrived in Virginia 1740. 2. George Campbell arrived New York City, 1742 3. George Campbell arrived 1743, bonded passenger to America These three records above would fit nicely. The last one does not give a LOCATION of the arrival, perhaps the book tells more?
