    3. Names and dates can both be so misleading on US censuses. My Campbells are from the mountains of western NC and east TN. I have found my Campbells listed as Campell, Camel, Cambell, Campbel, probably others. Unsure if it was because the census takers were in a hurry or if that is what was given to them. Probably they just put down what was phonetically correct to them. First names are always difficult. The 1850 census has Thomas, the next T.B., the next Baty- all the same person. His son was Albert E. Some how on the census it turned into Albert T. Then later AT, which is on his tombstone. I find I get more results if I pull up the county census, go to the C's and look at them all. Ages are also bugaboos. The earlies census that person can be found on, especially if a child seem to be the most accurate. On my GGgrand father TB's tombstone it says born 1822. The 1850 census has it as 1828. His brother , Elijah, or Jackson or EJ according to 1850 census was born approx. 1825. In 1900 he told the census he was 90. It seems the older one got the more exaggerated one's age got. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Atpowelljr@aol.com> To: <CAMPBELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 15, 2005 12:26 PM Subject: Re: [CAMPBELL] > Atten DUCK: <Campbell??> > On the William E,- VS W. 3. Very true. I found my grandparents in the 1920 census at Camfield. Strange enough, but true... -----Original Message----- From: L.G. 3. Have you ever come across an S. A. Campbell or Sandy Campbell in your area? He was probably born around 1835 in the western parts of NC (possibly Lincoln or Catawba area)? "L.G. 3. My favorite saying from another family genealogist is that people during the 1800s walked backward in education for a while. They were very busy being explorers, frontiersmen, and pioneers in the westward movement. ----- Original Message ----- From: "L.G.
