I have a family of Campbell's from VA to Muskingum Co about the same time as your John. James b 1783/88 and Elizabeth were in Ohio Co, (now WV) abt 1819 when one of their sons was born. They came to Muskingum in the early 1820's. They lived in Muskingum township, near Shannon. There is also a number of other Campbell's who came from VA so it is so hard to determine who belongs to who. The name John does not seem to appear in my line, which may or may not mean anything. I did see he name Lane on some deed of James - but I think only as a witness, or an official. There was an older John Campbell who came from VA to Muskingum, he is buried in Irville. If I remember correctly he had a grandson named John (but I think it was Younger). Don't know who his children were. Good luck - there are so many Johns and James Campbells that it sure make it hard. My ancestor was named Noble to he was a little easier to find. >
