    2. My great-grandfather John Campbell was born in VA in 1817, I have no idea who his parents were or what part of VA he was born in....does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could locate him there & his parents? Married Oct 1, 1840 to Urith Lane from Ohio and they moved to Vermilion Co., IL where they raised their family and died in 1889 & 1894. Any help, suggestions, etc. extremely appreciated... Peggy

    3. Dear Peggy, Did you locate his marriage certificate? It should state parents names. Did you locate his death record, or funeral home, or cemetery record? Also should state parents names. These 2 records might not have the parents names, but would be the first step that must be taken in the research. In the 1850-60-70-80 census, are there other Campbell names in the same area which also state born in Virginia? Maybe you can find brothers to him, and then find parents from there? Please tell us the NAMES of his children, in case that rings some bells.
