I will expand Nancy's question to include North Carolina Campbells, who likely migrated from PA, VA and/or MD.  I have a couple of Campbell soldiers, John and James, who went to Hillsborough (later Greensboro) in 1774.  One fathered an illegitimate son, and the other married, took in his brother's orphaned child, then died without issue.  Court records are a bit unclear as to which brother did which, but the result was my ancestor, John Campbell, born September 10, 1775.  These Campbells appear to have been closely associated with Hamiltons and Bealls, who were from Calvert and Charles Counties in Maryland, beginning in the late 1600s.
