Debra, "John Campbell born c1784 in Scotland, a weaver by trade...." Many men emigrated from Scotland and Ireland, trained as professional weavers, about the time your John came to this continent. There is a well-known and well-documented John Campbell, trained in Paisley, who was a prolific weaver in Ontario during this same period. I don't know if he is the same John for whom you are looking but his weaving records have been preserved and might contain familial information. "Keep Me Warm One Night: Early Handweaving in Eastern Canada", Burnham and Burnham, 1972, Univ. of Toronto Press, has several pages on this John Campbell. Since he lived and worked in New York for a while, he is also listed in weaving histories about the United States. "The book "The Campbells of Martintown...." I'm not related to these Campbells and therefore am not familiar with the book you wrote about above but if it discusses your John's weaving in any way, I would be interested in how to obtain a copy. I'm happy to scan and send you the information I have if you think it would help you. Jan Thomas Textile Historian
