Hi Larry: Did I mention on the Campbell Kids group that there is an Eneas Campbell in the Rev War Files on Footnote.com? The way the name reads...it's listed two ways...Aeneas Campbell or A Eneas Campbell. The file is under Eneas Campbell. Here is what a summary of the file says (this is what is sent to persons asking about a certain file, or search): In the papers in claim R. File 1627, it is alleged that Aeneas (or Eneas or Enos) Campbell, who was born 3 Oct 1757, volunteered for five years in 1777 and served as a Second Lieutenant in Captain John Harwood's company in the Upper Battalion of Montgomery County Maryland Militia, under his father Colonel Campbell, until the close of the war: That A.Eneas (I put the . In...to keep the E capitalized, Marge) Campbell married in Iredell County, North Carolina, February 25, 1791, Elizabeth Ann Belt, born February 20, 1767 as his second wife, that he died October 15, 1828, or December 16, 1828, and that she died January 3 or 4, 1853, in Iredell County, North Carolina. Their children were (from submitted bible pages from Aeneas' bible): Thomas born April 10, 1793 Elijah " Jan 17, 1795 Umphrey " Feb 18, 1797 Esther " Jan 3, 1799 Asa " Mar 28, 1801 Rutha " May 27, 1803 Belt " Sept 9, 1805 Elizabeth C. " Sept 23, 1807 David " Feb 26, 1810 On August 6, 1855 David Campbell, a resident of Wilkes County, Georgia, son of the above A.Eneas Campbell, applied for the pension which might have been due on account of the services of his father, for the benefit of the only surviving children, viz. Elijah Campbell, Esther Nichols, Belt Campbell, Elizabeth C. Tiner, and himself, but the claim was not allowed for the reason that the required proof of alleged service, marriage and death were never furnished. There is a handwritten notation...hard to read...think it says..."All previous correspondence relative to adjudiating claim considered..... There is an initial...but no clue what it is. The entire file is 35 or so pages. I've been looking at MD Campbell's to see if maybe one of them mentions a son named Eneas or Aeneas..anything close ...haven't found one yet. Hope this is of use to you. Marge TinLizzie18 LS Visit my Webshots Albums http://community.webshots.com/user/margecam52
Hey Marge ! Thanks for the effort on AEneas, Jr. I descend from sons Thomas and Elijah (this IS the rural South). Somewhere here I have a copy of the family Bible and David's application after he moved to Wilkes Co, GA. Jr was the son of AEneas, Sr. born 1730 where we don't know and died in 1812 in Montgomery Co, MD. Sr was the first sheriff of Loudoun Co, VA, being there when Jr was born. Sr's first wife was Lydia Cartwright and appears to be the mother of all the kids. We just can't find where Sr was born nor buried. The only clue to his birth is a reference to St Mary's Co, MD and a letter a cousin has that indicates his siblings were scattered around the globe. The DNA has resulted in limited information and a few folks with our "different" marker. As soon as I get my winter supplies picked, split and stored, I will reopen my efforts!
