Does anyone know how the mitochondrial dna thing works. I think that the females. Do we get the same info as the male DNA? My first cousin could go back female to female to our Campbell line. I've paid to have several other family lines DNA'd by menfolk, but my Campbell's had no male descendants. Have a blessed day! The Y-DNA has to be done from the male line of Father to son. It also has to come from that particular Surname. I am a Brown that has Campbell ancestors, but I had to get one of my Campbell cousins to take the test, so i could see the DNA. The Mitochondrial DNA can be taken by male or female, and it follows the female line of witch is much harder to trace seeing that the surname changes every generation, and comes from various families and locales. I hope this helps. Richard On Jun 2, 2010, at 11:17 AM, Diana Holland Calderon wrote: > > Does anyone know how the mitochondrial dna thing works. I think that the females.
