I hope the members of this group/ forum call it what you will realize that you are permitted to post non-genealogy material to this site. I enjoy the history behind the Clan Campbell and welcome information/stories relating to my interests. Live and let Live ..both sides of the spectrum....or the Clan may be forced to deal with you. Next sign of trouble my daughter (six years old) will be called in to explain why we should all get along. Todd Campbell

I haven't been able to find a copy of the Chiles-Childs Family History that contained the story. I'm trying to confirm any part of the story. He supposedly was born in Cork, Ireland in 1694, was kidnapped by a press gang at age 12 to serve in the British Navy, and later escaped into Virginia. He worked and purchased land in Virginia, eventually moving back to Ireland when he was 30 (@1724), where he married and had children. His son George came to Virginia around 1750 to settle his father's estate, eventually settling in the colony. I heard that Charles Campbell may have owned land in Henrico Co., VA, probably purchased between 1712- 1724. Does anyone have access to the deed records for that county or live in the area? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers. Read about your ancestors, find marriage announcements and more. Dear Shirley, Thank you so much for shareing this information. What a lovely Campbell family this was, even if they are not related to my Campbell family. I hope that this info you give will help some descendants of this family line to make some connections in the Western States. I certainly appreciate all your kind and generous help. According to the records abstracted in THE HISTORY OF ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA by Morton, William M. Campbell was a son of Samuel L. Campbell and Sarah Alexander. Their four sons graduated fromWashington College and all went West and all became eminent. Samuel L.Campbell was born between Brownsburg and Fairfield (in Rockbridge County) in 1766 and died at his country home, Rock Castle, in 1840. He was a graduate of Liberty Hall Academy (later to be known as Washington College) in 1788 and studied medicine at Philadelphia. He is considered the first resident physician of Rockbridge. My research does not show any connection between this Campbell family and the Amherst families. Is anyone out there researching Moses and Abigail CAMPBELL? They are found in the 1850 census Fond du Lac County WI, Waupun. Moses is 67, as is Abigail. Moses is a farmer with $1000 real estate value. He is born in NH as is Abigail. The 1850 census does not identify relationship of others to the head of household, but here is the list. There is John Campbell 30 w/$500 real estate value, also born in NH. 22 year old ELI Johnson, born in NY. Daniel Campbell, 29 born in Maine and wife Electa born in Ohio with infant, whose name is illegible, born in WI. The infant is Isabella Valucia Campbell, my g-grandmother. She was born in Waupun. She married Josiah Blackman Blakely. They were missionaries in China from 1874 to 1880. Their three children were born in China, including my maternal grandfather, Albert Blakely. I have gathered a bit of information on this line and would like to hear from anyone with common interests. I will gladly share what I know. Do you have more info on James B. Campbell? Where he is from? Date of birth? Date of death? Any family info? Anything that would make him stand out. bud
I am interested in finding out if this man mentioned here is part of the Campbell families which began in Amherst Co and Nelson Co VA. From the location of the meeting of Amherst, Nelson, and Rockbridge Co., VA the location of Lexington, VA is just so close to our home area, I am guessing there is a connection to this man. The use of the initial M in the middle name, makes me wonder about: Massie or Maddox as the actual name?? These are wonderings of mine.... From the LEGAL profession and the Political office, makes me think of the WHITEHEAD family line, such as Capt. George Campbell, m.Eady Burcher Whitehead, d/o John. Is this a possible ancestor of William of Lexington? I am just thinking out loud in case it helps to identify this man. I have hit a major brick wall with my James B. Campbell research so I thought I would follow up on yours. I work for a large cemetery in Ohio and I know the amount of genealogy work I do and I just knew Bellefontaine had to do almost as much so I called them. This is what I found on your Campbells James A. Campbell Date of Death April 18, 1933 Date of Burial April 20th, 1933 born in Wisconsin last address 4121 A. McPherson Ave. (sic) married Eva Campbell Date of Death 1/13/1934 A very nice lady named Jeanie at the cemetery offered to give complete info on all family members in the lot, and even take pictures! You can do so by mail, Bellefontaine Cemetery Association, Office, 4947 W Florissant Ave, Saint Louis, 63115. Just put your request attn: Jeanie. I wish you the best of luck in your search. An abstract from History of Missouri bio: Campbell, John Alexander, merchant, born 19 September, 1871, at Steeleville, Randolph Co., IL. Parents were James Polk and Sarah Alice (Stillwangh) Campbell, both natives of that state. He finished his education in Kansas, and resided there at various positions for several years before moving to Joplin, MO. He started his own business, and in association with other, founded the Campbell-Redell Grocery Company of Joplin on 10 April, 1899. There is further background information in bio, but I have included the vitals. Jeanne
