Beth, I am of the Russell CO.,VA. Campbell Lineage also, but cannot connect to Henry or Abraham Campbell. My Fountain Campbell { born 1803 Amherst County, VA. ( in the Section that in 1808 became Nelson County, VA. ) } , came to Russell County, VA. in 1848 buying land from David Willis near Castlewood, VA.. Sam Campbell "a.b. craig" <abcfhist2@yahoo.com> wrote: Cecil, I would really like to know I might find that book. Our direct family line goes back to Abraham and Winnie. Abraham was son of Henry and Jane. This whole (well almost whole) part of the Russell Co.,VA.Campbell Clan descend down from Henry and Jane. There was a Willliam there that we can not find a relationship. I am going from memory and sometimes it is not correct so I will say Henry came to Russell Co.,Va. sometime around 1790. Henry's parents were Abraham and Dorus. Inone of these lines there are some Charles. My grandfather was Charles Robert Campbell. He was born in 1870 in RichlandCo.,Ill. About three years ago I was very active on this site but this is a new e-mail address for me, abcfhist2@yahoo.com. Igavethis line back to Dougal Campbell in Scotland at that time. Looking forward to hearing from you. Beth Familyhstryman@aol.com wrote: Hello Lilly This is the first reply to my question about Charles Campbell & Mary Trotter. These maps are great except they don't show the boundaries allowed in the early years of our country. I have put some copies of old maps from early history books online at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcampbel/va2/index.htm You can see where VA and other states were "Sea to Sea" at one time.. It is so amazing how many Charles Campbells there have been. My 4th gr-grandfather is not known to some I suppose. My cousin and I seem to be the only ones researching this line. Charles lived to be 104 or 107 by some accounts, and he was a Scottish loom weaver. His son, John, served 21 years in the British Army. John lived in the Mullaghbrack parish area of Armagh, Northern Ireland. His sons John, Daniel, Patrick,James, and Felix came to America after 1848,possibly because of their father's passing. We know very little and are almost scrounging for information. Family lore from the 2nd John's family is that we are from Argyll originally. Although not yet proven. Just wish someone could help. I am also researching the Campbell family in Connecticut in the 1700's.. I have received information from Roger Frain who is also in this family. Cecil, I would really like to know I might find that book. Hi to all !! I just read an interesting article in the November, Discover magazine. The article was Who's Your Daddy? British public health researchers examined about 50 years of medical data and came to the conclusion that one man in every 25 actually raises another man's child. Given that human nature hasn't changed significantly through the ages, just how does this information affect the Campbell DNA project?? Any thoughts on this?? If this is true, then what about all the genealogical resesarch we have all done? Just wondering!! Steve Campbell Researching NEIS CAMPBELL, born 1847,in Craghey, Co. Donegal, Ireland; came to the USA and lived in PA. and Dougherty, Iowa. He died there in 1912.
This may be a little recent for the expert genealogists on this board. However, I could use some serious help. In 1900, a James (a.k.a. John B.) Campbell (b. Oct. 1873) was living in Rockbridge Co., VA, with his mother, Elizabeth (b. 1835, widow of Robert R.), sister Florance (also spelled Florence G.) (b. 1867), and Florance's two "basterd" children, Netty (b. 1882) and Cleaven or Clioven (b. 1893). In 1910, Elizabeth was living with her daughter Charlotte and Charlotte's husband in Slab Fork, WV. According to the census, Elizabeth had 4 living children. Based on my other records, this means either Florence or John had to have died between 1900 and 1910 (all her other children are accounted for). I have searched endlessly. Florance, John, Cleaven/Clioven, and Netty, all disappeared off the face of the Earth after 1900. No death records, no marriage records, no census records, nothing. I would be greatly indebted to anyone who could find anything to indicate their whereabouts after 1900. Their other family remembers (siblings) were located in Raleigh and Fayette Counties, WV, and Rockbridge and Augusta Counties, VA. Steve
Here's something I use quite frequently that's a big help. Simply click on a certain year, and a county map for that year appears. It's great for genealogy research: http://www.myvirginiagenealogy.com/va_maps/va_cf.htm
Hello Lilly This is the first reply to my question about Charles Campbell & Mary Trotter. To both Sandy Harris, and Cecil Campbell, I am VERY interested in this line of questioning, have your found any answers yet? Are you getting any feedback which is private and not posted on the mailing list? Would it be possible to share it with us? I have never paid much attention to the Campbell families in Scotland, just because I have no idea as to WHICH man was my immigrant ancestor, prior to knowing his name, I am 'dead in the water', as my Dad would have said. This Book reference which Cecil Campbell refers to is very interesting. Has anyone looked at that man and his wife, and what kids they had? Did he leave a Will which has survived? Just wanted to be sure to let everyone know that I am very much interested, but I have no facts to contribute at this moment, but hope that others will chime in and get a discussion started.
