    3. This was one of the family questions that Iwas working upon when I went down. I truely believe, note I did not say know, that these two line sare together. Certainly wish I had my records at my fingertips. However, what Ican dois later post all of the descendants down that I have from Jane and Henry. Perhaps if we all work together we will be able to sovle this puzzle Marvin <marv3@redrivernet.com> wrote: Lilly, There was a James Young Campbell married Sarah Carmack in 1810 in Washington co, VA. James then moved his family to Douglas and Vermillion co, IL where James died at his son's home. Some of the Carmack's married into my Campbell family but I haven't figured if these Carmack/Campbell's were related to my Carmack/Campbell's. Mitchell [mailto:jpmitchell@bluebottle.com] Sent: Friday, October 28, 2005 2:12 PM To: margecam@comcast.net Subject: Dicey Campbell Hi again. A couple weeks ago I was nosing through some more Campbellstuff, and as usual was trying to solve this Ellis saga. I found something very interesting. Of course at this point, I don't know of what significance it may or may not have but I wanted to make you aware of it. If you are aware of what I am about to tell you, then please just forgive me. As you know, Ellis Campbell ( 1804 in VA) had a daughter named Dicey. However the Dicey I am writing about today is NOT the daughter of Ellis. I have seen different dates on her birth, but this Dicey was born somewhere around 1806. She married 21 March 1821 to a Benjamin Wright in Amherst County, Virginia. ( Note this marriage record has her born 1800, and Benj. Wright b 1773). This was Benjamin's second marriage. He first married a Nancy Campbell. The post on Rootsweb.com by Dan Wright says that Dicey was a cousin to Ben's first wife Nancy. Anyway, there is listed 14 children that Dicey and Benjaminhad. I am not going to list them all, but the thing that interestedme was the following names of some of their children...Elizabeth,Dicey, Mary, and a son named Melander who married Polly Campbell. This Dicey who married Benjamin Wright had a father named MatthewCampbell. Also in 1830, Lincoln County, Tennessee, there are severalWright's listed including a couple Benjamins. What has gotten me excited is the fact that these are the same names as Ellis'children. It just seems like that this may be of some significance. That is alot of names from one Campbell family just to happen that another Campbell family has the same names. I can't help but wonder if there is a link. As you know, back in those days alot of people were named after their relatives, more so than today. I know there is speculation that Ellis' dad's name might have been Cornelius. If in fact his dad's name was Cornelius, then perhaps this Matthew who is Dicey's father could have been his brother??? Of course, it is just pure speculation on my part. To change the subject, I just put in the mail today, a request for a death certificate for Elizabeth Campbell who married E.R. Haywood. As you know, that was Ellis' daughter. She died in Missouri in 1921. I want to see what Jefferson City has on her death certificate as the maiden name of her mother Elizabeth. I am aware it is debated whether it is Young or Cobb. I have a copy of the death certificate that Jeanette gave me of Ellis' daughter Malinda who married Joel Polk Woods and that certificate says Cobb as the maiden name of Elizabeth. Death certificates were required by law in 1910 in Missouri. If I knew when Fountain Campbell died, I would order his death certificate also. He married Mary Phillips. Jeanette doesn't have a date of death for him, but seems to think it was after 1920. I might just start working on trying to find a date of death for him. I hope Jefferson City gets those certificates back to me in a couple of weeks. I will let you know what they have down if anything for the maiden name of Elizabeth. Just curious, what do you think about this Dicey Campbell who married Benjamin Wright? Do you think they are worth taking a closer look at? Let me know what you think. P.S. I know James Mehlander spelled his name Mehlander, however Dicey and Benjamin spelled their sons name Melander. I still think it could be of some importance. Joyce

    3. Dear Beth, I wanted to reply to you via the mailing list, because I feel that your research past and present is so important that I wanted everyone to read about the names and areas you are working on. I now remember you! I remember your name and email address, from long ago, when I was just beginning to learn about my Campbell family in Virginia, USA. I copied off many of the reports you shared, because they dealt with the Campbell name in general, in early VA, and Scotland, and I felt that someday they might help me. Let me tell you what I am working on, and how I connected to the Campbell name. My great-grandmother was Susie Jane Campbell b. 1892 TX, both her parents were Campbells, both her parents were from the same community, Temperance, Amherst Co VA. They were not first cousins, but they were 'cousins', they were both from the same Campbell descendants group, that of the earliest ancestor proven, George Campbell and wife Caty, of Amherst Co VA. This George and Caty left a very large family in Amherst Co, and Nelson Co VA. George's farm was about 460 acres, and sat on both sides of the Piney River, so his original land which was first called Amherst Co VA when he died, then became split between Nelson Co and Amherst Co VA when Nelson was formed in 1808. I studied all the Campbell families of this exact area, and found that they were not all related. There were 7 early Campbell men, who left descendants, but these 7 men were not related that we can prove at this point, perhaps they were eventually relate in Scotland in older times. So I identified the 7 separate Campbell lines of Amherst Co and Nelson Co VA in colonial times up to 1860 census. I am not alone in this work, there are MANY fellow researchers, both on this list and off, who have contributed greatly to my understanding of these families, and there are many who know a great deal more than me, I have only been at this work for 4 years, and really only the last 2 years have become acquainted enough to be able to share and post reports. I did post 41 numbered reports, to this list, concerning these 7 Campbell lines, and those would be archived at the mailing list archives, should be all year 2005. For some crazy reason, my Campbell ancestors stayed in one small area in VA, and married back into the same Campbell group of descendants, and so my great grandmother is not only Campbell from both her Mother and Father, but also from other ancestors, so that she is predominately Campbell. My great grandmother Susie Jane Campbell could be traced back to George Campbell, who was married to Caty, and is considered to be our earliest proved ancestor, from his son John, his son George, and possibly from his son Henry. So she descends from 2 or 3 sons of the same Campbell man. Now you know who I am and what I am working on. I really only have info on the Campbell families who are in Amherst and Nelson Co VA, however, because Rockbridge Co is next door neighbor to us, I do have several folks who located there after leaving Amherst/Nelson area. Now I hope everyone will read your original email to me, below, and respond back on the mailing list to bring to light comments, data, and questions which will further your research. I would like to know why he was born in Ky. when his parents lived inthe area of Richland Co.,Ill. AmI just confused or did I read the information I received incorrectly. Now,someone was asking about an Archibal Campbell. My one of my files I have of family sheet compiled by a Helen Franklin Baker who was of Morristown, Tn. which shows a Joseph Campbell who dfied @ 1725 onthe ship coming to America at sea. He wasof Scottish origin ofNorth Irelandandhe was Presbyterian (Scotch Covenanters) He landed in Philadelphia and remained in Pa. It shows his children as Archibald who went to S.C. after landing with Robert William Colin Catharine ROBERT born@ 1718 in County Down, Ireland and died Dec. 24, 1810 in Hawkins Co.,Tn. He is buried in the Homestead Cem. He married first Leticia Crocket with whom he had six children. He also married Jane Alklison. 3. My g-grandmother, Isabella Valucia Campbell was born 17 May 1850 in Waupun, Fond du Lac Co, WI. Her parents were Daniel A Campbell b 18 June 1822 in Waterville, Kennebec Co, Maine and Electa Lucetta Soper b 18 Jul 1832 in Delaware, Delaware Co, Ohio. Daniel & Electa were married 4 June 1849 in Fond du Lac Co, WI (The marriage record does not name the town). The 1850 census finds them in the town of Waupun, in the home of Moses Campbell, who is assumed to be the father of Daniel. The 1850 census does not indicate relationship to the head of household. The wife of Moses is Abigail, no maiden name known. The 1850 census indicates both Moses & Abigail were born in New Hampshire. Daniel and Electa had several children: Isabella Valucia, Clement C, Myra A, Lucretia, Phebe C, Katie P, Albert A & Daniel B. The 1900 census asks ‘how many children born to this mother’ and the answer is seven, with all seven living. The previous census tallies show eight children, with all of them born in WI except Myra, born in Iowa. I do not yet know if Daniel ever took his family to Iowa, or whether we might think that Myra was a niece taken in and raised with the family. The discrepancy is unresolved at this point. Anyone with a connection, please contact me. I do have things to share. We visited Pine River, Waushara Co, WI just this past May and found the church that Daniel preached in for many years. He and Electa are both buried in Pine River cemetery. Donna B Cross Willcox AZ -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 3. Good Evening, I am still having problems with my computer since taken out of storage. However, my son will soon fine tune it and get me a new keyboard. Now, I have seen data pertaining to Fountain but can't remember where or when at this time. However, there is a Greg (can't remember last name at the moment)who has collected a great deal of information on the Russell Co.,CVa. CAmpbells and then there is also someone else who has the informationgoing back even further . However, all of that data iis not available to me yet. Fountain is an unusual name and there is also a Fountain Bethell from Va.area. I will see if perchance my neice will comeup and share with me the datathat I gave her earlier.then I can post it here and you folks andcorrect it or etc. Will close forthis evening, Glad tohear from you.
