William Lee Campbell was born in Randolph Co, NC on Dec. 1, 1844. He was the youngest son of Isaac Campbell & Nancy Williams. Wm Lee left NC and went to South Carolina when he wanted to fight in the Civil War and his parents would not allow him to do so. Wm. Lee married Bethany Friday in Edgefield Co. SC. They had 7 children, and she died in 1880. At some point, he moved on to Southwest Georgia, and in 1884 he married Nannie Culpepper with whom he had 7 more children. He died in 1921. My mother (Wm. Lee's grandaughter through his oldest son) died in 2003 at age 93, and according to her research in the early 1990s, this is her line: John Millard Campbell, Wm. Lee Campbell, Isaac Campbell, John Campbell, Malcom Campbell, Laughlin, Campbell, Fergus Campbell. Apparently there was no contact with Wm. Lee and his NC family after he left home. Cecile Harrrell

Maybe you do A. T. We know that Fountain Campbell was born in Nelson County and DNA has shown a close relationship between his descendent and the descendent of Abraham Campbell of Russell County. We just haven't found the paper trail that proves if we are related to the Nelson County Campbell's and I'm not aware of any of the known Nelson County Campbell direct descendents having been tested. Phyllis, I believe it reads James Campbell b.1782 NC married Martha Adams b.1789. (Martha was born in 1789 NC) I have not found a marriage record. A daughter, China, was born abt. 1814 location unknown. Thank you for the Bowling Green information. I appreciate it. I just Found that there are 5 Campbell's buried in the Brethren Cem at Oronoco, on top of Long Mountain in Amherst County, Va that I am going to Run through L D S & Rootsweb World Connect. NOW EVERY ONE; remember, that Dates, Places & Middle INITIALS,s, JR's & Sr's. are just as important as any other Information that one has. May because I drove a truck through out the U S & Southern Cann. Depending on the Map, but I believe that it is just as important to me to know Where My Cousins live as that they are mt Cousins. JUST think how our Ancestors scattered out over the world. It is no Possible way for any one of us to ever travel to All of the Points that the Family INFO is recorded. I have 4 contacts in . the State of Washington, 4 in Idaho, 2 in Oregon, 4 in Tex. one in Louisiana, 4 in Fla, one in S C., 2 in N C, 3 in Md. Over 20 in Va. 2in N J., 12 in Wi. At least 5 in Ca. Many of my Cousins have been into Family Research longer than I have, <10 YEARS> BUT knowing where they live I know What Questions to ASK them. LAURA, Just gave THE perfect Answer to recording you Message for ones Descendents. Another Start for N.C. Campbell Family INFO is This: Type Black & White, <Color of Hair> Campbell's in Va. By Phill Norfleet. Then Click on to Campbell's of South WEST Va. Those Campbell's Settled in Orange County, Va that area is now Augusta Co, Va. Those Campbells Migrated South Down the Valley into The Area that is today Washington & Russell Counties, & at that time Current EAST Tenn was North Carolina. THE COL. William Campbell, That was the outstanding Military Force Commander AT King's Mountain N. C. WAS a Descendent Of the Campbells of South West Va. Virginia,s Campbell County was Named for Him. When the Battle for Kings MTN was over Some of Those Over Mountain Boys as they were known, Remained in CAROLINA, After their Winning the Battle of Kings Mtn. & having been able to meet the Carolina Girls & Native American Women The learned that there were Someone that they Could Marry besides a Cousin. So you Carolina Campbell's could find some of your Ancestors From this POINT. My First Wife in 1944, HER Mother was a Campbell But some of the Amherst & Nelson Campbell's had Moved into Russelll County With the Black & White David Campbells. BUT I have not found where any Of the Black & White David Campbell Descendent,s Migrated to Amherst & Nelson Counties. I would like to comment on the question as to what to leave future generations on voice recordings. Pick up your family photo album and start talking. "This was taken at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house. You can see the big tree in the back, we had a tire swing there. Uncle John put it up for us one summer when we were visiting. We would visit there several times in the summer and at holidays. Grandma always cooked the fish we caught out of the lake, no matter how small. We each had our own fishing poles hanging up on the wall of the back porch, etc." Then say that was picture #1, make a TINY "1" in pencil on the back corner of the photo, and go on to #2. Sing. What old song did your folks sing? Were they gospel, lullaby, nonsense? Let's hear them. And if you can play an instrument, do that too. First tell the stories that were told to you, then tell the stories you know that your children are too young to remember (such as your childhood), then the stories of your children, grandchildren, etc. And the classics of course. How you spent your holidays, traditions that were passed along. Look around your place for the treasures you have saved from the past. Is that great-grandma's piano in the corner? Talk about it. Grandpa's pocket knife? Give the history of those things you treasure. This ought to be enough to get you started! Laura
If anyone is looking for Campbell's in North Carolina, a good place to start would be in Cumberland County. I've been researching my line that settled there in the 1700's for a little while. A good place that I've found was the NC Archives and the local libraries, they have a good source of material to be found. That is not to say that your people may not be located in other locations. Most of the Scottish people came into the Cumberland County area straight from Scotland, while a lot of the people located in the western areas of North Carolina emigrated down from northern states and settled in the area. I think that Ferquhard Campbell had a son named James that would have been born in that time frame, but I would need to go back and check my information to see exactly when he was born. I haven't been able to find any relations to the Campbell's in VA. yet, that's not to say there wasn't any. From the information that I've been able to find, most of the people that left the area went south and then west. Through Florida, Alabama. Just me again, My grandson came running to me bringing one of my binders that said Campbell on it. I open it and all of the protective pages were in it but none of the information. There or to get things started, I will post some information that has been sent tome earlier. Perhaps some one will be able to connect into this line. What I have started with James K. Polk Campbell. It appears that they had no other information earlier. If the person who sent this to me, will contact me, I will be able to give them more information. James K.Polk Campbell was married to Mary M.Jennings on Sept.21, 1875. She was born @ Apr. 10, 1853 and died after July 1942. She was buried at Haven Hill, Richland Co., Olney, Ill. (Is there anyone doing research in the Olney area? I would love to know if that person could find the burial records for Richard H. Campbell and his first wife, Martha Ann Parrott) According to what I have before me, James and Mary had one son but they have no information pertaining to him. Under this son, there is an Ora Campbell born@ 1876 in Richland Co.,Ill who married Mary Sly on Apr 11, 1896 in Parkersburg, RichlandCo., Ill. It shows a of James K.Polk Campbell Charles Campbell born @ 1882 in Ky. under him is Pearl Campbell born Aug. 24, 1889, Olney, Richalnd Co., Ill. and died Jan. 16, 1970. He married Retha L. Shouel (that isthe spelling I see) on Jan. 28, 1913 in Olney who was born @ 1897 in Wayne Co., Ill. and she is died in Jan. of 1970. It shows the children of Charles and Pearl Campbell as Mayo born @ 1902 Beatrice CAmpbell born @ 1904 James born @ 1906 Loren CAmpbell born @ 19807. These records also show Altha Campbell, born Oct. 23, 1891 in Bone Gap, Edwards Co., Ill and she died Aug. 30, 1971 in Matoon Illinois Memorial Hospital She was married to Edward Ennis on Aug. 7, 1908 in Olney, Richland county Ill. She later married William R.Zimmerle Sr. on Julyi 25, 1921 in Vincennes, Ind. Alta Campbell and Charles Ennis had a daughter Mary Elizabeth Ennis born Juliy 4, 1918 in Mooresville, Morgan Co., Ind. She died Dekc. 6, 1999 in Olney, Ill. She married Walter Alvin Gibbs Julyi 22, 1936 in Olney. Now, sinceIdo nothave my records I will say only that this family will probably tie into those of Richard H. and his brother George Washington (Wash) Campbell . Not sure if he would be one of the other brothers or not but either way he would be descendant of Abraham and Wennie (Seiver) Campbell line which has already been posted. Now, will someone else post somethingthat they may have. OH!!!! I found an "OLD!!!!!" letter that just for thought I would like to post. Perhaps you have this kind of letter somewhere. My family just love to read these old letters. Grandfather, How warm the sun shines in my heart to think of you. So many fond momories of years past. Being older now, I know you had a shady side too, but oh so beautiful your "Sunday Best" side. You were such a rascal a thow you made so many people stop and look around. The water fight on the sidewalk with the little boy, just so you could accidently, get that all-dressed-up-lady soaking wet. Did you ever find out where she was going? That poor old lady who's shoes simply disappeared at the Lloyd's Center while she was resting on a bench. How long did she discretelyi look? I've heard you hid them for almost an hour before you silently put them back. How you pretended to be a chicken (or was it a duck) at the bottom of Grand Coulee Dam. Remember while you were working you discovered hollow shafts from bottom to top that echoed up. All the construction workers couldn't figure out what a live chicken was doing at the top of that concrete dam, but they sure looked for it. And you never explained? (that isn't quite like the story actually went but it is close enough. abc) The Easter Picnics at Beacon Rock Park. It would take us all day to climb to the top of the mountain to the waterfalls. All the grandchildren able to walk climbed up and most of our parents too. Did any of us ever get to the top before you? All the huckle-berry picking excursions every summer. You always had to get everyone together at least once a year and out productively in the fresh mountain air. All yuour songs and soft shoe routines. Did you know that the last time I saw you do a song and dance rouotine, _______was with me. He still occassionally imitates you and shuffles it out. He reminds me a lot of you. He's a clown;' he llikes to see people comfortable and I'm thanfull that you knew______and liked him. I still like him too. He's a very good father, he plays games with the children, similar to the ones you played with everyone. He's a very hard worker and provider, he loves us. You taught me to sing in my hearat. To enjoy just being alive, to try to love and be kind to everyone. The simple things, the free things in life. Imiss you grandpa______ - I miss your stories, your twinkling eyes and your smile very much. Did I ever say "I love you" enough? My kids will learn to knowand love you, I promise. You'll always be loved and very dear in my heart- in all the hearts of all who knowand meetyou. Love, Your Grandaughter, _________" Just thought that some of this sosrt of lettersin the family records would make those long gone come to life for us once again. Anne, Please tell us a little about what you know of your family in Ind. What are some of the given names to the family in Ind.? A number of years ago we had fun with George Washington Campbell. Several of us found connections by doing so. While doing research in Warrick Co., Ind. I came across some Campbell. I do not know where they fit into the clan. Also, there is a great deal of Campbell, I mean a great deal, ofCampbell family data in the Genealogical section of the university at Bowling Green, Ky. I was only able to be there for @ four hours, and I had not even touched the tip of the iceberg of information yet. I think, not sure, that some of these Campbells in the data there were from N. C. Beth "a.b. craig" <abcfhist2@yahoo.com> wrote: Good Morning, It has been a blustery morning here, says Winnie. Come in out of the storm. Now, I really don't know just what most of you are researching. However, have been contacted requesting information on the N. C. Campbells. (early) Since I do not have my records, was wondering if you folks are up to a dare? Or perhaps call it a barnstorming. Since preRev. time frame it appears that most of the Campbells in the area of VA.,N.C. and S.C. were somehow related. Are you folks willing to post what you happen to have on the Campbells of that area. Also post what books articals, etc. we might be able to find information on tlhese Campbells. What particular libr. have a good gen. section. (I can't go myself, but perhaps there are those of you that could) Now, since my memory is failing me, and I don't have my records, could I encourage one of you to become a cental contact point for a fun project. Would each of you post what you would like to find. There are so many new ones on line that never say boo. I would like to address you quiet ones, I know that some of you are shy, don't think that your input would be of value, etc. Well you are wrong, I for one would very much like to here what you have to say. Don't worry about how you compose the wording, even your spelling, not all of us are good spellers,, I would like to know what you have found on your Campbell family line and for what you are searching, even if it is not my line. Since some of you are just starting to search for your family line, keep it simple with the names, dates and places if possable. Then there are others of you folks that have a great deal, please post. We have to remember(myself too) that I have what I do have because of others takeing the time to share. As a gift to me, would some of plese help me. While I was litterally DOWN, some thought for the count, a GREAT deal of the information that I had gathered was LOST. Because of the damage to my mind, I have lost a lot of my short term memory, perhaps I should just say memory. I have tried to share everything that I have with this message board. If you by chance have anything that I have sent to you, would you PLEASE forward it back to me. Since the Campbells from the area of Richalnd, Wayne and surrounding cos.,of Ill., and of Russell Co.,Va.are my lines, I am particully interested in getting some of that information back. I have been asked to do tape recording of what I am able to remember, Would you please send me some idea of how to begin. Doing voice tapeing as a means of recording will be new for me. . Have any of you done it? Is there any guide lines? If you had a great grandmother who had the family history, what would you like to know first, etc. Should I try and do it as just factual or should I try and do it as a historical novel? Please send me feed back. Beth --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers.
