    2. HOWDY George Campbell, The one 11/17/05- Campbell D. N. A., L have found That My fourth, <Not D N A> Grt Grand Mother has been without a Maiden Name for 226 years, & I believe it is Because the Fact of her Father was SWEPT under the Family Rug to avoid Embarrassment to her Father who had a Common Law Union before his Legal Marriage. Now for a moment, Lets be realistic, instead Family senstive. I do not Know how far back your Match would Follow the Campbell line. Now, lets Suppose that where your Campbell Match Stopped, & you find that you Match the other Family, Here is what Very likely Happened. At that Point, & Grneration, There was <LIKELY> A Campbell woman that gave birth out of wed lock , or in a common union, with a male from the Family that you Match with. THERE is nothing that you or any one can do abt that, just the way things often happened. This is just my Supposing. CUZ A T

    3. Dear Beth, I am hoping that you will regain all your good health and be able to go further in your genealogy research. God Bless you. Concerning the Libraries and research places in Virginia, I made some notes so that in the future I will visit these places myself. #1. Library of Virginia, Richmond, VA. They have a website as well, and many things can be search while online. #2. Jones Memorial Library at Lynchburg, VA. This was the place that Mary Blankenship used to research the Campbell families of Amherst and Nelson Co VA. #3. Hampton Genealogical Library, Hampton, VA. These 3 places are noted in my files, as places other researchers recommend. Hope this helps, and thank you for all your past and present research. 1. Campbell DNA
    2. G. Campbell
    3. When I took it over a year ago the 12-marker test cost $99 and the 25-marker $169. The manager of the Campbell DNA project is Kevin Campbell who normally also monitors this list. I took the DNA test hopping to find other Campbell relatives but I'm not even remotely related to any of the other 113 Campbells currently in the project, but I'm not the only one. However, I've matched at the 12-marker level three other men, none of whom are Campbells nor even have the same family names among themselves. The ancestor of one ot them even came from Germany. I assume that my early ancestor was not related to the original Campbells but lived in their territory and took the name of Campbell when surnames were introduced. His other (distant) male relatives were living in other territories and took those family names, one even migrated to Central Europe. The DNA test has certainly raised a lot of questions and I hope to find a few answers. In any case I would recommend that every male Campbell should take the test. The larger the project group the better. George Campbell

    3. I know that previously that I posted information on Patrick Campbell and some of his descendants from Augusta and Rockbridge Cos., Va. If I were at home I might be able to find some of the data but I believe that there were some of Patrick's children listed in some of that data and also his parents and grandparents. Hopefully will be home once again soon. Beth Lynden Harris <bharris@ntelos.net> wrote: Phyllis and Pat; Yes, I see that Moses Campbell is in the Amherst 1783 head of household census with a family of 10 but James Campbell is likewise in the same census with a household of 6. Unless Pat can clarify the dates and ages, its difficult for me to understand the family of Moses Campbell as he had sons Moses and James as well. Can you help Pat? My James Campbell did marry a Mary or "Polly" - a Smith and I note one of the deeds James and Mary signed she was identify as Polly Campbell. James and Mary would have been born about 1750 as daughter Elizabeth was born in 1774 and James Jr was born in 1775 (confirmed by census). In searching the Moses Campbell connection, I ran into a Patrick Campbell who came into Augusta County (Rockbridge area) very early as I found land purchased by him there about 1750. He filed his will in Rockbridge County in WB1 page 1-20 and identified one son James Campbell. The will is dated 15 July 1777 - a perfect date!! 1. Patrick Campbell, Botetourt Co VA and Amherst Co VA marriage.
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Dear Mr. Harris, and all others, Here is what little I have gathered on Patrick Campbell, of Botetourt Co, VA. His spouse was Ann Ware b. 1754 probably at Albemarle Co VA, d/o Edward Ware, Sr and Leticia Powell. Edward Ware, Sr lived in the Western side of Amherst Co VA, near the Buffalo Creek area, or Peddlar area. Patrick Campbell married Ann Ware on 11-3-1774 Amherst Co VA. Marriage record states Patrick Campbell is of Botetourt Co., VA. Patrick Campbell, his WILL was filed 4-8-1778, Amherst Co VA, wife was Ann Ware/Weir. His BROTHERS were: James Campbell and John Campbell, his brother in law was James Ware/Weir. I also have, Patrick Campbell of Botetourt Co VA, to Ann Powell, 11-3-1774, witness: James Ware and Ben Pilared. This is marriage license of Amherst Co VA, 1:6. The son of Patrick and Ann is James Campbell, and he married Sarah SEAT. The above information came to me from Joe Ware and Sandy Rowe and Bonnie Davis. I saw that in the 1870 census at Temperance, Amherst Co VA, my own ancestor listed as Edith Campbell (Eady B. Wright Campbell) was living next door to John and Victoria Ware. That is my only real connection to any WARE family line. 1. Columbiana Co., Ohio Campbell family line (Samuel Campbell)
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Hello Paul Campbell, This mailing list is for ALL Campbell researchers. It just so happened, that in the 1700's there were at least 10 or more men named CAMPBELL who lived in Amherst Co. VA, and they left plenty of descendants, some who stayed, and some that moved on to every state in USA. I happen to be related to that group, but my Campbell family left VA for Texas, Oklahoma. There are so many descendants of this enclave of Campbell men in Amherst-and Nelson Co VA, that we seem to have alot to discuss, but we want to hear from EVERYONE, because it is completely possible that even YOUR own Campbell ancestors are mine as well, we might be related, but not know it yet! I wanted to let you know that I have an ancestor from Columbiana Co, OH at the same time frame as you have mentioned here. My ancestor was James W. Leach b. 1802-4 Maryland, he arrived prior to the Fall of 1809 in Salem, Columbiana Co OH. I can say that I have studied the history of Salem, OH and have learned that it was founded and settled by QUAKERS in 1803. Prior to 1803 there weren't white settlers there, but as of 1803 they started pouring in from VA, NJ, PA, MD and elsewhere. I already know that Joseph Wright and his son Joseph Wright, who were of a Quaker background located in Bedford Co VA did go to Salem, OH with the first settlers. There was indeed a Quaker community in Bedford Co VA. I mention this to you, because it is possible that your Campbell family were QUAKER? Could that be why they settled in Columbiana Co OH? This is just a suggestion, you would need to check with Quaker archives/records, to see if there are any Campbell families listed, which might be yours. I don't have access to Quaker records, but they are out there. I must say that there were NON-QUAKERS also who arrived with the Quakers, so it is very possible that other faiths came along at the same time frame, same areas. But the history books will always point to the Quaker settlers as the moving force of settlement of Salem, OH as of 1803 onward. I suppose you have subscribed to OHCOLUMB-L@rootsweb.com ? George Campbell married Mary Groshong on August 18, 1825. This was the second marriage to take place in the County. The marriage license reads as follows, ''August the 18, 1825, To whom it may concern I give you to under stand that I Samuel Groshong has nothing agins George Campbell marring mi daughter Mary Groshong.
